Through this correspondence, my uncle and Khrushchev realized that they both wanted peace, but that they were surrounded by an intelligence apparatus and by military brass who considered war not only inevitable, but desirable. Sixty years later, my goals are the same. To move beyond simplistic, “us versus them” thinking, to talk to our adversaries, and to preserve this beautiful ark. When America takes the first steps toward peace, we will once again become a true world leader and true moral authority.
