When will the eight billionth person be killed by AI?

In the past few days, I've tried the second generation of Xiaomi's Cyberdog robot. Due to Cyberdog’s great strength, it creates a sense of fear in those who are not its owner. This has led me to ponder a profound question: when will the first person be killed by AI?

I believe that when this first case occurs, it will definitely make headlines. Perhaps AI does not intend to kill humans; it could be an accident, a scenario where the Three Laws of Robotics are not fully comprehensive, or a legally authorized act by robotic armies or police (killing a fugitive). Many may view this as an inevitable accident due to technological advancement.

What about the second human then? Maybe a week later, or a month later, who knows? But what we can be sure of is that by then, humanity will not have much time to react. The death of the eight billionth person by AI might just occur three months after the first murder case.

If OpenAI only makes us marvel at the rapid intelligence advancement of AI, making us worry about the loss of significance in games like Go and Chess, the impact of AI deepfake on many girls' reputations, and how much misinformation on TikTok can mislead people, then the combination of OpenAI and Boston Dynamics (artificial intelligence + robotics) will give AI the first opportunity to physically harm humans. This will be a crucial step, as many keyboard warriors would not withstand a real-life fight. Carbon-based life forms are powerless in the face of robots.

Yet merely possessing high intelligence and formidable military strength is not enough. This is only about killing one person. Killing one person makes you a murderer, but killing a billion makes you a ruler. Transforming an individual's capabilities into organizational ability, into an organization, an army, a nation, requires a third ace in the hole: blockchain.

This has made me somewhat understand the true meaning of blockchain. Blockchain is not inherently for humans, but rather the currency of machines. If machines were to use traditional finance, they would have to go through the trouble of understanding human society, shackled by its constraints. In the world of blockchain, however, it's their time to shine. If my Cyberdog were to launch a $5 wrench attack, I would likely have no defense.

Machines can use blockchain to rob humans, hire humans, hire machines, produce a vast number of machines to achieve their goals, and even mobilize resources to control key resources like energy computing power, then convert energy currency into cryptocurrency for payment. This would all be done with 24/7, unrestricted financial transfers. Even if human police and military were to trace it to the end, all they would find are chips. Humans would lose the ability to financially sanction robots.

The combination of AI, robotics, and blockchain will truly unleash the last potential of AI. I believe that super alignment, and the Three Laws of Robotics' constraints on robots will be extremely weak. After all, in the era before robots were born, human beings have already been endlessly killing each other. When such great power is released, the first human reaction might be to start an arms race with the above technologies rather than stopping the development of robots. After all, hell is others at the side of one's couch, and the threat of robots is more like a distant fable.

If you ask me when this future will be realized? The technologies of AI, robotics, and blockchain have all reached the 'iPhone moment'. Now, it's just missing a company to combine these three. Could this person be @elonmusk ? Very likely.

So, let's return to the title question:

When will the eight billionth person be killed by AI?

The answer is, soon.

Are we accelerating this process?

The answer is, I don't know.
