Modern Greeks are not the unchanged continuation or exclusive representatives of the ancient Hellenes. Modern Greek national identity was constructed by retrospectively incorporating selected elements of classical antiquity into a nineteenth-century national framework. Population ancestry does not turn that modern national construction into uninterrupted historical identity or grant modern Greece ownership of every ancient society associated with the wider Hellenic world.

If you go to Turkish twitter, it seems that Turks are the only people with pride in Islam and defending the faith.
