@FolgerAACPS@eeeaacps It’s been amazing working alongside Mrs. Herzig. We’re looking forward to an exciting year together in Triple E STEM in Society @FolgerAACPS
This weekend’s Environmental Fair is giving students @BodkinAACPS a chance to remind others to “Bee kind to pollinators” and use eco-friendly gardening practices. Look at the cute rocks they made for the fair.
Ss @BodkinAACPS are upcycling scraps of cardboard and leftover yarn to make these cute Bodkin Bulldog cutouts. They’re just one of the handmade eco-crafts this weekend at the Bodkin Environmental Fair. Join us 10-1 at Bodkin!
2nd Gr Ss @BodkinAACPS work collaboratively to produce signature kites for a specific host country. These will be part of their marketing for an international kite event.
3rd Gr Ss @BodkinAACPS worked in teams to demonstrate how moving air can power a simple machine to do work. Kicking off a unit on clean energy that has Ss thinking about how to harness the wind.
3rd Gr Ss @BodkinAACPS are wowing their first grade audiences with their creativity, expressive retelling, and professionalism as they perform in their Folktale Festivals this week.
Storytelling troupes @bodkinaacps had mixed emotions before performing for their first grade audience. Afterwards, it was unanimous… everyone felt “amazing”, “fantastic”, “out of this world”, “mind blown by what WE could do!”
1st Gr Ss are having a blast exploring the format, parts, and purposes of different games. They played a Japanese game known as Fukuwarai, and both Ampe and Achi from Ghana, as well as Skippyroo Kangaroo from Australia. Soon they will invent or modify to create their own games.
2nd Gr Ss @BodkinAACPS came up with their own concepts before meeting with a team of other Ss representing the same host country. Then they combined, integrated, and agreed on ideas to create a signature kite design for their host country.
As Ss @BodkinAACPS rehearse for their European folktale festival, they continue to improve & add dramatic features to their performance. They are eager to keep their K audience entertained.
Last week 2nd Gr Ss @BodkinAACPS tinkered with kites. They noticed many materials, shapes, forms, and bright, bold colors. They wondered: What happens to a loose kite? Can it reach our upper atmosphere? How heavy can a kite be and still fly? Are airplanes and kites related?
Ideas take flight as 2nd Gr Ss @BodkinAACPS take advantage of a windy day by testing their handmade kites. Soon they will be in charge of marketing an international kite festival for a host country & designing a signature kite.
Storytelling troupes @BodkinAACPS have finished the nesting dolls they will use in performing folktales that are foreign to them such as Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten from Germany and The Lame Duck from Ukraine.
K Ss @BodkinAACPS made sensory pillows for mindful toolboxes. They took pleasure in the silkiness of the ribbon, aroma of the lavender oil, and the softness of the fabric squares. Best of all, they enjoyed being makers. Thanks for the idea @krisyvonne ❤️
3rd Gr artisans are diligently working in teams to create a set of nesting dolls to use in retelling a European folktale. Bright colors and squeals of delight fill the room as they get down their first layer of paint @BodkinAACPS
2nd Gr vexillographers are generating multiple flag ideas to present to their clients for feedback. Unusual sources for inspiration are helping them to push their creativity to new levels @BodkinAACPS
3rd Gr Ss formed storytelling troupes & began practicing their narrative parts for their folktale performance. Afterwards we used our “think-about” board to share out strategies that were working for each troupe. Collaborative learning @BodkinAACPS
Now that 1st Gr Ss have added texture through clay & beads, their African inspired masks are coming to life. Ready to be photographed for our socio-emotional books @BodkinAACPS
More fun with flags today. 2nd Gr Ss @BodkinAACPS delighted in sharing the flag they designed & how it represents part of their identity. Each flag tells a story!
