I’ve done that three times plus two tech phone calls and I can’t get the downloads to open. Shouldn’t have to go through that for data views

After 3 phone calls to Google Health help line, all I’ve gotten is to manually export data from Google, to email, to a file (which hasn’t worked).

The Chicago Teachers Union finally released “annual” audits to members after five years of fighting their members, a Congressional inquiry, and a potential U.S. Department of Labor investigation.

Now we know why they wished to keep them private:

At least two of CTU's combined financial statements are seriously flawed. An independent auditor issued adverse opinions about the statements, which means the auditor concluded the union’s finances were misstated in a material and pervasive way.

Two combined financial statements include the union and its two PACs. The union “elected to omit” activities of the Chicago Teachers Union Foundation and the Children and Teachers Foundation of the Chicago Teachers Union. As a result, the auditor found the combined financial statements “do not represent fairly the financial position of the Chicago Teachers Union.”

CTU leaders, it turns out, did have something to hide all along.

Property tax is just a tax on unrealized gains and I'm tired of pretending it's not.

You buy a house for $300k. Years later, market goes up, assessor says it's worth $600k now. Boom—your tax bill jumps, even though you haven't sold a damn thing, pulled equity, or seen a dime of cash from that "gain." You're paying every year on paper wealth that only exists on Zillow or some county spreadsheet.

We lose our minds when politicians float taxing unrealized stock gains for billionaires ("muh forced sales!"), but grandma gets hit with the same thing on her family home and we're supposed to call it "paying for schools and roads"? Nah.

It's a wealth tax dressed up as a service fee, and it only feels fair because we've normalized it for centuries. Once the mortgage is paid off, you should OWN it outright—no annual ransom to the county just because your neighborhood got trendy.

Abolish property taxes on primary residences. Tax consumption if you must, but stop pretending "ownership" means you rent from the government forever.

I am sorry Mr. Speaker, but I seriously disagree. Illinois is not “moving in a better direction.” That claim collapses under even minimal scrutiny.

For years, Illinois has seen annual budget growth, yet core state services continue to deteriorate, from roads and public safety to child services, education outcomes, and veterans’ care. Tens of billions have been spent, reallocated, or wasted, while working families are objectively worse off: higher taxes, higher housing costs, weaker job growth, and our state ranks among one of the slowest economic recoveries in the nation.

This isn’t abstract ideology, it’s lived reality for Illinois residents.

Calling affordability a “promise” doesn’t make it real when Illinois families face the highest combined tax burdens in America. Claiming “fiscal responsibility” rings hollow when government expands every year but delivers declining results. And invoking “rights” as a talking point means little when public safety failures, out-migration, and declining trust in institutions continue unchecked.

So the question isn’t partisan, it’s fundamental:

Are Democratic leaders so insulated by ideology and one-party control that they no longer see the consequences of their policies?
Or do they see them, and simply refuse to acknowledge them?

I don’t doubt many are well-intentioned. But good intentions do not excuse chronic mismanagement, denial of outcomes, and a refusal to course-correct.

Illinois doesn’t need more rhetoric about “common good.”
It needs measurable results, accountability, and policies grounded in reality, not slogans.
