Just finished up my "Moonlit Tango" piece for the #zugzugchallenge! It was quite the experience and it was great to address feedback from fellow like-minded artists. Check out the artstation post for a closer look at the details๐

@Moonlitalien Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one lmao. Riot's modern champion design has really leaned into just that: MODERN. Completely disregards the world around Runeterra in favor of making the most hip/up-to-date trend follower. It's tired.
If this actually happens... You will NEVER see me back on the regular League. Pre-rework Katarina is literally the MOST FUN experience I've ever had playing League. ADC Graves, too. So much has changed with the gameplay philosophy now that I think has been softened down.
@MBanonFdZ Why pick an image where she has a whole lot of makeup on? This is arguing against the version that the game came up with ๐
The actress is beautiful but the game developers certainly did NOT choose the best possible version of her appearance while still remaining faithful.
@mooncakephel@gg_EZ_lol Think if it were yourself. The day the devs wanted to scan your face is when you're full of pimples and your skin is breaking out, unlike any other day. Is this the version you want them to ship? Obviously no. You'd want them to ship the version where you looked best.
@mooncakephel@gg_EZ_lol 2/2 So? Did someone put makeup on these unwilling women's faces? Did they not sign off on a touched-up version of themselves? Lots of these are headshots, & in the industry, it's meant to be the best version of their appearance. Why not represent their ideal version in games?
@mooncakephel@gg_EZ_lol 1/2 Firstly, it does lmao. Women will do what's called "social pedestaling," which is essentially uplifting the ugliest member in their groups and outwardly labeling them as "prettiest" without genuinely believing it themselves. It's an extremely common social behavior.
@mooncakephel@gg_EZ_lol Everyone likes attractive men, and everyone likes attractive women, except for other women. A noticeable behavioral difference. It's why you'll find female devs sabotaging the appearances of female characters in their games because eliminating aspirational beauty is the goal.
@mooncakephel@gg_EZ_lol Devs do a fantastic job of making realistic male characters look 1:1 with their VA. So it's obviously achievable, yet they intentionally go out of their way to exaggerate certain features on women or make them look unrecognizable. Eastern devs get it right by ENHANCING beauty.
@Pirat_Nation The actress is pretty. I don't understand why women wear makeup in their everyday lives to cover imperfections/age. Yet, female game developers refuse to translate that beauty over into a medium of fictional entertainment that people look up to for aspirational goals and beauty.
@DreamDusttt Not yet. Sometime in June as Iโll have to take a little break from her for a bit and finish up another project that needs to be completed before the end of this month.
@OmpireLoL It's certainly inspiring. Thanks!! But if I can, I prefer to use a human artist's artwork for the splash if someone is willing to create one. In this skinline, I'd imagine she's more of a K-pop Gamer Girl fan who enjoys DDR rather than an arcade-themed musician
I also took quite a few suggestions from you guys to support finalizing her design! Added wings with 3D cubes that size up and down in-game to mimic the in-game screen VFX on her platform. The textures are still a WIP! But I'm pretty happy with where she's at.
