This all resonates with me. I’ve recently been doing work with Internal Family Systems and realizing that I’ve taken on the roles of caretaker, rescuer, and protector. In the last few situations, those roles have only come back to bite me in the ass, and I now recognize that they no longer work for me. So I’m learning to let people experience the consequences of their own choices. I don’t need to rescue, protect, or caretake them.
