@CWN_Podcast@okayplayer People, mostly white, confuse cultural appropriation and assimilation. “She’s black and has blonde hair!” is assimilation, the desire/need to fit in with the dominant culture. Appropriation is taking and praising something one despises in the original culture...
@CWN_Podcast@okayplayer I’m gonna do my best to make this concise. Cowboy hats aren’t, specifically, cultural; they’re clothes of convenience that have attained cultural significance, and that for multiple cultures. Cultural appropriation is taking while denigrating.
@thenakedpole@okayplayer You only get so many characters and I’ve only got so much energy and patience for the literal logic sink that is this app. 99.8% of people on social media don’t give af about “true;” they just wanna be a part of the conversation, any conversation. As, seemingly, yourself.
@malo_j@RCReed40 @SkinAtheist “If.” That’s the crux and the point. We ASSUME sentience because we DESIRE sentience in order to feel a connection. There’s no requisite “mammalian emotion;” there are merely actions that we ascribe to attitudes that we apply self-referentially.
@Shreem16@ToniMusic23@okayplayer Midnight Cowboy was a movie based on a book about a gigilo. It had absolutely nothing to do with a person in the cattle-hand profession.
@mndspeak Some people don’t pay attention to twitter because I sweater gawd I see this exact tweet every 10 days. We get it: you had grandparents and that somehow magically confers superiority. My grandmother also made cookies. You don’t get one.
@5aluteMeImPaige Females be just as thirsty and weird as dudes, but get more traction because everybody gives them a pass. Having known a few chicks physically taken advantage of by chicks, I be tryna warn people, but people don’t wanna be warned.
@RCReed40 @SkinAtheist Human beings are human beings, brodie. The very definition of “humanity” is how we treat other human beings. Why do we love our pets? Because we ascribe them human emotions and mentalities. We MAKE them that because it makes them easy stand-ins for the human love we can’t get
