The strength of opera lies in the vulnerability of its characters not the prowess of the singing, says @PlacidoDomingo . "The profound humanity of the characters I have interpreted has always fascinated me," the singer said in his latest interview ahead of a concert in Castelló on 26th July, his fourth this year in his home country, Spain. "The voice is a very delicate instrument," Domingo told "El Periódico Mediterráneo". "We can't keep it locked away, it's part of us and changes with us." With more than 150
operatic roles to his credit the great Maestro is legendary not just for the depth of his understanding of the characters and the beauty of his voice but also his uncanny ability to appear totally convincing in any role. "I preserve memories of marvellous roles I interpreted so many times like Otello, Cavaradossi, Don José or Siegmund," he said. "They're all inextricably linked to the memory of magnificent colleagues, conductors, musicians and directors who all made opera history." Judging by the ovations and full houses in his 60-year career, Domingo's approach to opera has the public's full approval too.

Mozart at a monastery on a Greek island, a striking setting despite the blustering wind audible in the video. With the monks of Toplou monastery in Crete in attendance among the capacity audience, Greek soprano Christina Poulitsi and @PlacidoDomingo charmed with their duet from "Don Giovanni" on a summer night three years ago today. Happy days we remember with nostalgia.

The day of eternal love: the love for opera for everyone, the affection of @PlacidoDomingo and #Luciano Pavarotti for
@JCarrerasTenor who had recovered from leukemia, and a celebration of World Cup Soccer. Thirty-six years ago today The Three Tenors conducted by Zubin Mehta took the musical world by storm and changed our perception of opera for ever with their concert at Baths of Caracalla in Rome which became a musical milestone. Hats off to the three legends who enrich our lives until today and will do so for evermore.
