Brotherhood undeterred, a partnership rooted in trust. During my working visit to the United Arab Emirates, I had the pleasure of meeting with H.H @MohamedBinZayed . Our discussions focused on strengthening the longstanding partnership between Ethiopia and the UAE, expanding cooperation, and advancing regional stability. I appreciate the warm reception and our shared commitment to deepening the friendship between our two nations.

Regarding the Red Sea
We believe that the Red Sea issue is a legal, historical, geographical, and economic matter that must be approached calmly and thoughtfully. When we ask who decided to deprive Ethiopia of access to the Red Sea, it is clear that institutions were not involved. It is therefore appropriate to question who made such a vital decision. Ethiopia cannot exist in isolation. Our message to our neighbours is that as Ethiopia grows, it will serve as a source of development and prosperity for the entire region. What we seek is shared growth and mutual progress.

From September 22-26, the U.S. Embassy hosted a dynamic Research Administration Workshop to support the autonomy of #Ethiopian public universities, organized by the One Health Global Alliance (OHGA), from September 22 to 26, 2025, at the Hilton Hotel in Addis Ababa.
Our partners from the One Health Global Alliance (OHGA) and representatives from the 10 leading Ethiopian public universities and Ministry of Education came together for this event, joining university presidents, Ministry of Education delegates, participants of the U.S. Embassy’s International Visitor Leadership Program, vice presidents of research administration, and university research leaders to share insights and strengthen the research capacity of Ethiopia’s premier research institutions.
Distinguished keynote speakers included His Excellency Ato Kora Tushune, State Minister of the Ministry of Education; Jonathan Koehler, Public Diplomacy Officer at the U.S. Embassy Addis Ababa; and Dr. Wondwossen Gebreyes, Founding Executive Director & President of OHGA.
Mr. Koehler highlighted in his opening remarks that, “The United States Government and U.S. universities have been longstanding partners of Ethiopian higher education since the 1950s, when the United States’ Point Four program helped establish three universities in Haramaya, Jimma, and Gondar. After more than seventy years, these universities continue to be cornerstones of Ethiopian higher education.
Following the Ministry of Education’s August 2023 announcement of an initiative to transition Ethiopia’s public universities to autonomous governance, the U.S. Embassy allocated a $522,000 (75 million Ethiopian Birr) grant to the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences focused on sharing U.S. higher education expertise in priority areas, including research administration, policy development, resource mobilization, endowment, alumni engagement, and student admission.”
A special highlight of the week was the interactive sessions led by OHGA and partners from the U.S., Kenya, and Brazil, which featured collaborative training and experience-sharing on global university research administration. Sessions focused on the best international practices in grant proposal development and review, institutional grant management, research funding, budgeting, and compliance.
We are grateful to all the participants and partners who made this event an outstanding success, advancing collaboration in Ethiopian higher education and research.

Today at my office, I received Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor for Africa at the U.S. Department of State, with whom I held discussions on a range of issues.
Today, we visited the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA)—a pillar of national voice and pride that has faithfully represented Ethiopia’s stance to the world for the past 83 years.
Now entering a bold new chapter, ENA is evolving its historic legacy into a vibrant and forward-looking media institution. With a modern media complex, state-of-the-art studios, and a renewed commitment to multilingualism, it is poised to serve as a gateway for Africa’s voice to reach global audiences—starting from Ethiopia, but echoing across the continent.
ENA remains a steadfast guardian of our national interests, while also championing Ethiopia’s rich cultural and tourism assets. By investing in skilled human capital and cutting-edge media technology, it is positioning itself to project our nation's positive narrative on the world stage.
Particularly significant is ENA’s growing role in broadcasting African stories in international languages through initiatives like Pulse of Africa. These efforts must be supported and scaled to amplify the continent’s authentic voice.
We must dare to imagine—and actively build—the Africa of tomorrow: an Africa we dream of, work for, write about, speak of, and boldly present to the world. In pursuit of this vision, the government is committed to working hand-in-hand with ENA to realize both national and continental transformation goals.
We reaffirm our pledge: ENA will continue to be more than just a news agency. It will be a beacon of unity, a custodian of our heritage, and a vital platform for Africans to tell their own stories—authentically, confidently, and in their own words.
The desire for sea access is a significant goal for the Ethiopian government, driven by economic and strategic considerations, as it is a landlocked country. This quest is not solely a gov'tal objective but reflects broader national aspiration shared by Ethiopian people worldwide
