I have found mindfulness to be a common therapy for many mental ilnesses. It can be practiced alone or in a groupe, with high or low skill level, therefore is very accessible. It allows consumers to be in the moment and reflect @MHR5000818
It is interesting how clients with the same diagnosis can present differently. Eg. Depression with SI can present with flat, restricted affect or masked and present as euthymic. This highlights the importance of building rapport + asking important questions @MHR5000818
I've learnt so much over the past 4 weeks. Even if I don't end up working as a mental health nurse I really feel I have learnt skills that can be applied to any type of Nursing @MHR5000818

@MHR5000818 found out some information about EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing) therapy for PTSD. I have seen this being conducted and found it very interesting. It is also 80% effective in single episode trauma sufferers after 3 sessions
@MHR5000818 learning about EDMR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing) therapy to treat PTSD has been facinating. It has been shown in studies to be extremely effective for single trauma victims.
I am really gaining confidence and have been finding it easier to engage with consumers. I have discovered how important to build rapport, and once they feel comfortable it allows for an open conversation @MHR5000818
@MHR5000818 It is very interesting to see how accepted and widespread ECT use is for psychiatric illnesses. Here is a further look into the positive outcomes and possible side effects to learn why it can be considered so controversial. https://t.co/OlV8qWh7xF
@MHR5000818 Extremely interesting article. Relevant to consumers who struggle with psychiatric issues and then are further challenged by social and financial issues. NDIS and other services can really help in the recovery process if used appropriately.

@MHR5000818SO Relating to the discussion in class today, it was interesting to hear the story of someone who suffered from an anorexia nervosa, except she was not underweight. This really adds another layer to the "psychological torture".

Great news! Additional funding will be going to organisations like Orygen, Beyondblue, Headspace and emerging minds. Relevant quote to this twitter headroom "The digital space is also playing an increasing role in the delivery of mental health care" https://t.co/Tpk5YCzSDR
@Courtney5000818 Also interesting how the author mentions drug companies only picking participants from studies who showed a good response to antidepressants to make studies for their drugs look good. I don't know how accurate that is but sounds crazy.
Really interesting article! The author details the differences + similarities between grief and depression, how both involve loss. He also talks about the idea of depression being due to unmet psychological needs. Really relevant to lecture material.
