For our first Poetry Bookclub of 2026 we will be talking about Isabelle Baafi's beautifully crafted Chaotic Good.

The book is, as always, £2 off in the shop and we will meet on Wednesday 18th February at 6.30pm.

Everyone is welcome, no booking or expertise needed!

Book Club Klaxon!
Join us on Thursday 12th Feb at 6.30 to discuss How to Sleep at Night by Elizabeth Harris, all welcome.
Hurrah!

What a silly question...!
Depends on the time of year, the weather, my mood, what else have been reading...honestly, who can choose a favourite when there are so many amazing books out there!
What would you choose?

Advent Calendar Day 16!

What was your favourite audio book of the year?
I listened to all 5 of the Canon Clement Mysteries including the Christmas Novella, read by the author Richard Coles. Dryly funny and full of 1980's details.

Bookish Advent Calendar 11!
What was the last book you read set in another country?
Perfection by Vincenzo Latronico, another beautiful publication from Fitzcarraldo set mainly in Berlin. What happens when you constantly chase an Instagram lifestyle?

[Beckenham Bookshop @BeckenhamBooks]

Day 9 of our advent calendar!
William, the father in Danny the Champion of the World by Roald Dahl.
He combines excitement and security - full of schemes and ideas but always coming back to their old caravan home. I still love this book.

Bookvent day 8, what cook books do you enjoy cooking from?
Well, here in the bookshop we mostly enjoy making tea....

Happy Sunday, bibliophiles! Today is Day 7 in our Book Advent Calendar. Today it is all about picture books! MY (Liz) persnal favourite is Don't Let The Pigeon Drive the Bus. It is pure silliness and fun.

[Beckenham Bookshop @BeckenhamBooks]

Bookvent day 5, I cannot think of any books that have made me cry this year, which is a shame in itself, but the very beautiful Viam by Jon Fosse came close for me, K.
What have I missed that made you cry this year...?
(happy tears allowed!)

[Beckenham Bookshop @BeckenhamBooks]

Bookvent Day 4, what frequently banned book have you most recently read? As it turns out, T has recently loved and staff picked Despised and Rejected by Rose Allatini which has been recently revived and reissued by Persephone books.

[Beckenham Bookshop @BeckenhamBooks]

Day 3 in our Book Advent Calendar! We are focussing on Modern Romance in this instance. I (Liz) have not read much modern romance this year, but I do have MERRY CHRISTMAS, YOU FILTHY ANIMAL by Meghan Quinn waiting for me as an upcoming fun seasonal read.

[Beckenham Bookshop @BeckenhamBooks]

Booky Advent Calender Day2!
What excellent book club book did you read this year?
Tara's turn - our Poetry Bookclub, Selima Hill's new book A Man, A Women and A Hippopotamus (she's so good at noticing details) and our Queer Bookclub, Saltblood (pirates & identity in one book!)

[Beckenham Bookshop @BeckenhamBooks]

Day one of our Booktastic advent, best book I read this year? So many but first thought is Exiles by Mason Coile, AI sci-fi martian horror of the highest order for K and James Tarrant, Adventurer by Freeman Wills Crofts, a gripping story of innocents (or are they?) in peril for S

Good morning, bibliophiles. We (the royal we) have decided to treat ourselves to one of the Bibliophile Advent Calendars. Just look at this lovely thing! We will be opening a panel each day in December (and probably fighting over who gets the book!) so watch this space.

[Beckenham Bookshop @BeckenhamBooks]

Good morning, bibliophiles! We are 100% open today but as it is a bit on the cold side (I can see sleet!?!?!) we've closed the door but, as always, we will are happy to help navigate it by playing doorman (sans tophat, sadly). Once it warms up a bit, we'll open it again.

[Beckenham Bookshop @BeckenhamBooks]

There's still plenty of time to read the next poetry bookclub book.
Selima Hill is great with details and in each chapter these short poems build into a picture or story.
Join us to talk about A Man, A Women and A Hippopotamus on Tues 9th Dec at 6.30pm.
Everyone Welcome!
