@DebtCrisisOrg Any JOINT CONSOLIDATION LOAN borrowers invited to speak?
You know the ones on their own since '06. Got their own law passed in Congress with less than $500 & no help from advocates.
No help to abuse victims paying abuser's debts despite pleas for help! SMH.
@SecCardona@POTUS Implement the JCLSA. Its already the law of the land. If you cant, cancel the remaining predatory Spousal Consolidation Loans. Logic dictates that it can't be worth the administrative headaches. Most if not all of us will be cancelled via PSLF or the expanded IDR anyway.
@SecCardona How long will this 53 year old teacher of 22 years have to wait until joint spousal consolidation loans are separated? We are paying $800/mo on a loan that has been paid off + 24% interest, but the balance is still $224k. @SC_DoUsPart
@SecCardona It’s time to cancel joint spousal loans. We both have been in education for 23 years AND… WE HAVE PAID BACK OUR ORIGINAL LOAN AMOUNT + 24%. Our balance today is more than double the original loan despite paying it off. It’s time! @SC_DoUsPart
@SecCardona Any update on joint consolidation loan separation? The law passed 10/11. We are 23 year educators who can’t access the PSLF because there’s been no movement on this law. We have had no pause in payments through Covid and continue to pay. Please HELP! Thank you
@usedgov@FAFSA Oh wait…Except if you have joint spousal loans, even tho both you and your spouse have been educators for 22 years. Oh and by the way we’ve paid off the original loan plus 24%, but our balance is double what we borrowed. In that case, psych!
Borrowers with MORE accrued interest than principle balance shouldn’t exist, but they do.
Borrowers with 6 figures of #studentloandebt shouldn’t exist, oh they do.
An Education Secretary with the power to solve the problem choosing not to use it shouldn’t exist, yet he does.
@POTUS So true! Now tell me… how does capitalizing 100s of 1000s of dollars in interest on student loans make sense? My original loan was $110k, I’ve paid $140k and my balance is $224k. Isn’t it hypocritical to go after CC companies when the govt does worse?
@SecCardona Implementing the law to separate joint spousal loans so that we can get approved for pslf for our 20+ careers in education. Not having $800 payments will immediately feel like a raise. We’ve paid for 22 years and $140k on $110k loan but still owe $224k. Cancel them!
@usedgov@FAFSA Has DoE followed the law to allow separation of JCSLs? I’ve been in public service 23 years and my application sits on hold until DoE follows the law and separates my JCSL. @SC_DoUsPart
@usedgov@FAFSA I am a teacher and my husband is a guidance counselor. We’ve worked in public ed for 22 years while paying on our joint spousal loan. We’ve paid it off but the balance has ballooned. We don’t qualify for pslf. We will retire owing 4x the amount we borrowed. Separate@SC_DoUsPart
More insanity with Joint Consolidated Student Loans: husband has cancer, asked @Nelnet for cancer deferment, them: sure, sent us paperwork. Called us back & said:NO, sorry, UNLESS U BOTH HAVE CANCER we can’t do cancer deferment. OMG! @usedgov@markwarner@SC_DoUsPart
@VP@POTUS How about fixing predatory student loans before this teacher retires. Borrowed $110k and paid $140k, still owe $224k. In what other industry is this allowed? Implement law and separate joint spousal consolidation loans.
