@kiwibookgirl Crazy huh. I grew up there, close to the river upstream of these pics and it flooded every so often. But not like this. My aunt has a newspaper clipping of one like this in the 70s but stormwater etc would have been different then I think.

A little perspective for those not familiar with how scary the #nelson flooding is. This is the Maitai River. Check out the distance from the normal river level up to the Riverside Pool building to the right.

Has anyone noticed the witness quotes from #chch? Two I have seen both initially assumed the gun shots were people being silly or a car backfiring. How many places in the world would hear those noises and assume that? None now, I guess. #ChChMosque #nz
