What can you uncover in 72 hours travelling across history‑rich Shaanxi?
More than ancient imperial relics alone, French exchange student Octavia Basco encounters everything from granite Huashan Mountain peaks and the roaring Yellow River to pre-history palaeontological discoveries.
Following her friend Wang Zizhu, a Yenching Academy master's student at PKU, she embarks on a 72‑hour journey across her home province, Shaanxi!
Octavia explores the historic landmarks of Xi'an, the famed 13‑dynasty ancient capital, from the Terracotta Warriors at the Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum to the Tang-dynasty Small Wild Goose Pagoda. Furthermore, at Northwest University, she connects with 1969 PKU undergraduate alumnus Academician Shu Degan and learns about his groundbreaking evolutionary research.

After more than 20 years, when Ronald Sakolsky returned to the Maowusu sandy area, sitting side by side with Yin Yuzhen and her husband, he said in a choked voice, “this time, (if) I go away, I may not be (back again)." #FriendshipAcrossOceans#DesertificationFight
Like collecting an ink stamp at every stop along your journey? Then don’t miss this multilayered stamp in Beijing, with a different world unfolding in each layer!
In late August, Erhai Lake leaves its most vibrant shades of green along this ecological corridor. Cycle along the lakeside path, and as you round a few gentle bends, Bai villages unfold one after another along the shore. Cangshan Mountain rises on one side, while Erhai Lake stretches out on the other. Further ahead, groves of trees emerge gracefully from the crystal-clear lake, their branches and reflections shimmering together on the water. At Haishe Ecological Park, groves and meadows stretch along the shoreline, with wetland inlets scattered across the landscape. Cloud shadows drift slowly across the landscape, and time seems to slow with them. The mountain is serene, and the lake is gentle. Here, early autumn unfolds in every breeze and every shade of green along the way.
