@ThePhDPlace I don’t think a PhD is significantly more difficult/depressing than other “high stakes”/high performance settings. But I think that level of academia often attracts people who don’t necessarily have the skill set for that type of setting. And there is little build up/prep to it

Fantastic thread! An interesting thing that regularly happens at work is someone will go “You’re a linguist, what do you think about this…?” And expect me to have some strong opinion about the correct way to use a term. My opinion is almost exclusively “yeah idc use whatever”

Housing First participants at 24 months report higher income, higher perceived housing quality, and access to family doctor. So, homelessness ends immediately and then the rest of life slowly and steadily improves!

I spend hours every day combing through local data on people experiencing homelessness. Every month I sort through the transient death list for clients I worked with or that my organization served to understand how many clients we’re losing to death. 1/

It’s so incredibly demoralizing to know people are fighting so hard to move people experiencing homelessness out of view, because it’s easier to hide them than to actually fix the problem I guess.

I’m saddened, angry, frustrated, and unfortunately unsurprised by this ruling. 5/
