“A man who loves truth embraces it wherever it may be found, for he has no peculiar doctrine to defend.”
@KeyboredKreiger@JamesEisen1891 But beyond direct institutional inheretence there is the simple fact that Cromwell was a trailblazer. Men like Napoleon and Washington were living in the world he created. They wouldn't have been able to walk if he hadn't first crawled.
@KeyboredKreiger@JamesEisen1891 If you want to talk about signifgant legal reforms, under Cromwell, England was the first government with a written constitution. Cromwell also engaged in systematic legal reform which made law more easily accesable and legible to the common-man, esrablishing munciple courts also
@KeyboredKreiger@JamesEisen1891 This is the equivelent of saying "Napoleon was a bad general and statesmen because he lost in the end, if he was a good general he wouldn't have put himself in a losing situation." Clearly that's not accurate.
@KeyboredKreiger@JamesEisen1891 You're ignoring the revolutionary nature of what his administration was able to accomplish. I explicetly said his administrative failure was longevity -- specifically, the failure to groom or create a proper successor/successor mechanism within the government.
@KeyboredKreiger@JamesEisen1891 ...royal interest and parimentarian interest which would not be resolved until 1688 when the Stuarts were ousted from power for the final time and a settlement favoring Parliament had been achieved.
@KeyboredKreiger@JamesEisen1891 ...administration nearly as much as it was a failure to properly groom a successor that could manage the machine he had built.
You say this led to a total royalist victory, but that's not exactly true. Charles II returned, yes, but there remained a conflict between...
@KeyboredKreiger@JamesEisen1891 >directed Atlantic imperial power, paving we way for British dominance in North America and beyond
>Developed the Navy that would go on to rule the waves
>"incompetent ruler"
Saint Oliver, have mercy upon this man
@KeyboredKreiger@JamesEisen1891 >wins the civil war through drilling a highly competent military out of nothing
>administrated the government so well during an impossible situation that even after the protectorate was deposed its institutions grew into the British Empire
>developed an educated citizenry
@KeyboredKreiger@JamesEisen1891 This nation is failing percicely because they learned the wrong lessons from Cromwell, and figures who could have been a second, more stable Cromwell to their generation turned down that responsibility.
@KeyboredKreiger@JamesEisen1891 Seete, regressive. The spirit of Oliver Cromwell rose again in 1776 and has never since expired. Memory eternal! Total regicide now!
@MormonZoomur@MormonMonarch Brannon is a symbol of Mormon excellence, its just a shame he didn't use his immense wealth and talent to benefit the rest of us
@CiabanC13980@FrenlyOfficer Did Mormons want to protect themselves? Yes, but they were also belligerent against the United States and confident in their power to create a new polity. They accumulated power to serve both ends and that is what frightened the mobbers into action.
@CiabanC13980@FrenlyOfficer It was so bad that we have documented instances of criminals in Illinois attempting to flee, gain residence in Nauvoo and join the Church so that they could not be legally punished for their crimes. This con worked on at least one occasion.
