🎬♾️ In Chapter Three of JAŸ-Z IN 8, JAŸ-Z revisits one of the most painful stories from his early music. His older brother was struggling with drugs and stealing from their home when he took a ring that had been given to JAŸ-Z by a girlfriend. A girl was there when it happened, adding embarrassment and ego to a confrontation JAŸ-Z says continued to escalate!

“This is my big brother… he stole the ring in front of the girl…it just kept escalating!”

JAŸ-Z ultimately shot his brother in the arm, an act he now describes as being at odds with how he carried himself even during his years in the streets!

“All my years of hustling, I always stayed away from violence. I was a hustler, not a gangsta. There’s a big difference!”

He explains that he never wanted to hurt, embarrass or bully anyone, while also making clear that he wouldn’t allow himself to be bullied. The incident would later become part of “You Must Love Me,” where JAŸ-Z confronted the harm he had caused people closest to him!

The conversation also places the record in a larger context. JAŸ-Z wrote “You Must Love Me” at 27, and Chapter Three explores how putting experiences like this into music became therapeutic for someone who wasn’t naturally comfortable expressing those emotions in conversation!
