THE IMPORTANCE OF DISCERNMENT
1 John 4:1 (NKJV): “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”
Discernment of spirits is a fundamental aspect of the walk of every believer.
In the Garden of Eden, Eve did not discern that the spirit speaking to her had destruction in mind. The serpent did not appear as an obvious enemy; he came with words that sounded attractive, yet carried death. Humanity fell and lost its place with God because of a lack of discernment (Genesis 3). This means that discernment can be the difference between life and death. It can be the difference between progress and setbacks. It can change the course of a person’s destiny forever.
There are people whose relationships, ministries, businesses, and careers have been destroyed because they lacked discernment. They listened to voices they should not have believed. They entered doors they should never have walked through.
Our theme scripture cautions us not to believe every spirit. Not everyone who advises you to enter a business deal must be believed. Not everyone who seeks you out as a friend should be welcomed. Not every opportunity is from God, and not every open door is for you to walk through.
To believe everything is not faith. It creates a breeding ground for deception and gives the enemy room to influence the direction of your life.
When it comes to your career, exercise discernment. When it comes to your marriage, discern. When it comes to ministry and your calling, discern. When it comes to relationships, partnerships, counsel, and opportunities, discern. When you learn to discern, you will walk in wisdom, avoid unnecessary losses, and live a life of success every day. Hallelujah!

PRAYER: Father, I thank You for the gift and grace of discernment. By it, I walk the course You have ordained for my life. I know how to test spirits, recognise Your voice, and never go where I am not supposed to go. I am sensitive to Your leading and preserved from deception. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
The heart of God for the believer is to always walk in victory. Every circumstance that He permits your way is never destructive. It comes to the end that His glory, sufficiency and steadfastness may be manifested to the world through you. SELAH
