This gentleman echoes a lot of what I feel. I'm an American, I feel it's inappropriate to get too involved in politics in another country.

However, like him I have had a deep respect for Korean people ever since I began reading about their civilization and history. Even contemporary history shows Koreans struggles against larger powers where their people prevail. The Korean War or Admiral Yi's defense against the Japanese fleet are clear examples.

Korean people are also bonded to Americans by blood shared in the Korean war and have deep respect in American society through their diaspora community.

When your friend's house is burning down you help them. The Republic of Korea is America's friend, and when their citizens are deprived of the right through vote that's a serious breach of any liberal democracy.

Liberal democracy, the principles of capitalism and liberty must be defended by all. That is how the Cold War was won and that is how you beat the spread of tyranny by combatting it globally.

Iran reportedly shot down a U.S. AH-64 Apache in the Strait of Hormuz. The crew was recovered by a drone boat.

Trump has ordered retaliatory strikes, now apparently in at least three waves. Reported targets include Bandar Abbas naval base and port, Sirik water infrastructure, Iranian SAM sites, and IRGC mine-laying vessels in the Strait.

Iran has also reportedly launched ballistic missiles from Isfahan. One strike hit the U.S. Navy 5th Fleet headquarters at Salman Port in Bahrain.

We're getting mixed messages here which I think is coming from the fractured leadership in Iran. A deal may very well be close but the elements being negotiated with may only be one faction within the Iranian state.

NEW: Here's a look at the massive U.S. military presence now spread across the Middle East.

According to U.S. Navy officials, nearly 20,000 American sailors and Marines are currently at sea aboard two aircraft carriers — USS Abraham Lincoln and USS George H.W. Bush — along with 18 guided-missile destroyers, the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, and more than a dozen air squadrons.

The assets are spread across the Eastern Mediterranean, Red Sea, North Arabian Sea, and Arabian Sea, where U.S. forces are helping defend Israel, counter Houthi threats, conduct operations involving Iran, and support maritime security in and around the Strait of Hormuz.

The naval force is part of roughly 50,000 U.S. troops currently deployed throughout the Middle East.
