1/6 What do childlessness, homosexual relations, and gender transition have in common with paedophilia? According to a new Belarusian law — quite a lot, apparently.

5/6 Who is at risk? Not just content creators. Anyone who shares, reposts, or likes — even in closed groups. Including people posting from abroad if they reach an audience in Belarus.
Feminist perspectives. Family planning materials. Works of art.
4/6 The law places lawful personal choices — who you love, whether to have children, how you identify — in the same article as a criminal offence.
Stigmatisation by proximity.
2/6 Belarus just introduced Article 19.16: liability for disseminating information that shapes "perceptions of attractiveness" of homosexual relations, gender transition, or childlessness — or presents paedophilia as acceptable.
#Belarus | The @UN Group of Independent Experts on the Situation of Human Rights in Belarus strongly condemns the Government’s decision to invalidate the passports of persons who had been detained on political grounds expelled from the country.

@MaryLawlorhrds Thank you @MaryLawlorhrds. Designating HR orgs as “extremist formations” is an act of persecution that may amount to crimes against humanity under Rome Statute.
+ This is a clear pattern of transnational repression against groups in exile.
I'm hearing disturbing news that on 31 March Belarus’s State Security Committee labelled the Belarusian Helsinki Committee an “extremist formation”, effectively making any interaction with it a crime. This has reportedly been done without any transparent process, public justification, or access to evidence. I’ve repeatedly spoken out against the misuse of “anti-extremism” laws to target HRDs in #Belarus, and it’s deeply concerning to see this trend continue. @BelarusUNOG@Belhelcom
The Belarussian KGB officially upgraded us to an “extremist formation.”
