Fermented foods such as ogi, kunu and garri are central to Nigeria’s food culture. With innovation, we can improve nutrition, food safety, livelihoods and market opportunities, particularly for women and young people.

At the IFPRI panel at #AFSF26, I highlighted Nigeria’s shift towards a more market-driven agricultural system focused on productivity, processing, markets and investment.

Through NAGS-AP, we have recorded 2.54 million metric tonnes of produce worth ₦2.31 trillion across four farming seasons, contributing to improved food availability and price stability.

We are connecting farmers to aggregation, markets and guaranteed off-take, while supporting two million smallholder farmers and distributing over 10 million bags of fertiliser.

With the procurement of 2,000 tractors and $538 million in co-financing for SAPZs, we are accelerating agricultural transformation.

Working with IFPRI and other partners, we remain committed to evidence-based policies that will build a productive, resilient and food-secure agricultural sector.

At the High-Level National Policy Dialogue on Agricultural Mechanization in Abuja, I unveiled the National Agricultural Mechanization Policy and Investment Strategy, aimed at expanding access to modern machinery, attracting investment and strengthening Nigeria’s food sovereignty.

Under the Renewed Hope programme, we are deploying 2,000 tractors and over 9,000 implements and spare parts, while plans are underway for a mega tractor assembly plant.

I commend our Permanent Secretary, Dr. Marcus O. Ogunbiyi, FNSE, and Engr. Maruf Olalekan Ajenifuja, Director of Agricultural Mechanization and my Technical Assistant on Development Partnerships and Collaboration, for their commitment to advancing this agenda.

Our priority now is implementation and measurable impact for Nigerian farmers.

Nigeria's Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, and the Executive Secretary of the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), Mohammed Ibrahim, have called for a fundamental shift in how Africa finances agricultural research, insisting that sustainable agricultural transformation requires more than increased funding.

The call was made during the High-Level Ministerial Dialogue on Sustainable Financing for Agricultural Research, Development and Innovation (AR4D), held as part of the 9th Africa Agriculture Science Week (AASW9) at the Abuja Continental Hotel.

The dialogue, jointly organised by the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) and the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), focused on the theme, "Financing Africa's Agricultural Future: Mobilizing Strategic Investments for Science, Innovation and Transformation."

Yesterday, the Executive Secretary/CEO of the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), Mohammed Ibrahim, joined the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, alongside dignitaries and stakeholders from across Africa at the opening ceremony of the 9th Africa Agriculture Science Week #AASW9, organised by the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa #FARA in Abuja.

Today, NADF, in collaboration with #FARA, will co-host a High-Level Ministerial Dialogue on Sustainable Financing for Agricultural Research, Development and Innovation #AR4D. The session will bring together Ministers, policymakers, development partners, researchers and private sector leaders to explore innovative financing models that will strengthen agricultural research, development and innovation across Africa.

A stronger Bank of Agriculture means greater opportunities for our farmers and a more food-secure Nigeria.

Today, I inaugurated the new Board of Directors of the Bank of Agriculture, led by Chairman Alhaji Muhammad Babangida and Managing Director/CEO, Mr. Ayodeji Oludare Sotinrin.

I charged the Board to make the most of the Bank’s recapitalisation by expanding access to finance for farmers, women, youth and agribusinesses, while strengthening transparency, innovation and good corporate governance.

The Board must also align the Bank’s operations with key government initiatives to accelerate agricultural transformation and support the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

Congratulations to the Chairman, Managing Director and all Board members on your appointment. I wish you a successful tenure as you work to build a stronger, more impactful Bank of Agriculture for the benefit of all Nigerians.

Yesterday, we flagged off the One Million Improved Cocoa Seedlings Roll-Out Programme at the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN), Ibadan, reaffirming our commitment to reviving Nigeria’s cocoa industry under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

The programme will provide one million improved, disease-resistant and climate-resilient cocoa seedlings to farmers across our 14 cocoa-producing states, helping to increase yields, improve farmers’ incomes and boost Nigeria’s export competitiveness.

It was inspiring to present the first seedlings to farmers, whose commitment to making the most of this intervention gives us confidence in a brighter future for Nigeria’s cocoa sector.

Together, we are growing prosperity, one seedling at a time.

NADF Executive Secretary Attends Agriculture Governance Workshop in London

The Executive Secretary of the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), accompanied by members of the Fund's management team, participated in the workshop on "Governing for Agricultural Impact: From Oversight to Outcomes," held in London, United Kingdom, this week.

The programme brought together members of the Joint Committees of the National Assembly on Agriculture, Production and Services to discuss how legislative oversight can improve the planning, implementation and monitoring of agricultural programmes.

Discussions centred on public sector accountability, budget performance, policy implementation and the role of Parliament in ensuring that government interventions deliver the intended benefits to farmers and the agricultural sector.

The participation of the NADF delegation gave the Fund the opportunity to engage directly with lawmakers and other stakeholders on issues shaping agricultural financing, programme delivery and institutional coordination in Nigeria.

NADF Begins Distribution of 100,800 Fertiliser Bags to 25,200 North-West Farmers

The National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) has commenced the distribution of 100,800 bags of fertiliser to 25,200 smallholder farmers across Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi and Jigawa states under the Renewed Hope Farm Input Support Programme (FISP).

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Katsina on Saturday, NADF Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed Abu Ibrahim, said the initiative is designed to reduce production costs, improve access to quality farm inputs and boost food production in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.

He said each beneficiary farmer will receive four bags of fully subsidised fertiliser, while each participating state will receive 20,160 bags for distribution to 5,040 farmers identified through state governments and the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN).

According to Ibrahim, the North-West intervention forms part of a nationwide programme that will see 515,720 bags of fertiliser distributed to 128,930 smallholder farmers across the country.

He noted that the fertilisers are locally produced, traceable and clearly marked "Not for Sale" to prevent diversion, adding that NADF has also concluded plans to deploy over 1,800 extension advisory workers nationwide to support farmers with technical guidance and best practices.

The NADF boss highlighted the agency's ongoing interventions in the region, including support for over 5,000 ginger farmers affected by blight in Kaduna State and assistance to flood-affected onion farmers in Kebbi and Sokoto states.

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, commended President Tinubu for prioritising agriculture and described the fertiliser support programme as a strategic intervention aimed at increasing productivity and strengthening food security.

Delivering the keynote address, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, said the programme demonstrates the Federal Government's commitment to supporting smallholder farmers while boosting local fertiliser production.

He noted that the intervention aligns with the State of Emergency on Food Security declared by President Tinubu and is expected to contribute to increased agricultural output, job creation and improved food security nationwide.

The event was attended by senior government officials, including representatives of the governors of Kaduna and Jigawa states, ministers, lawmakers and key stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
