Morning update: DNS is back up and running.
Domains that had recent changes (since the backup) will have to be redone, but we are working on that now based on email and tickets.
If something doesn't look right by mid-morning, contact us at (501) 327-8558 or [email protected].
There may be brief internet outages between 1sm and 5am on Friday, January 26th as our ISP performs system upgrades. We are watching for any abnormalities. Slow DNS or brief outages may occur. We will post updates here and on Facebook if needed.
I serve on the .US Stakeholders Council for the .US Domain Registry.
We will be having a town hall meeting on November 2nd to discuss our priorities on the future direction of the .US domain space, and this is the time for you to come give your ideas. https://t.co/szAIMV72HF
DNS moved to a new physical site. Shows online and working for me. (There may be several minutes of propagation delay, especially if you have been testing.)
If you are still not seeing traffic by 6pm Central (30 minutes from now) let me know.
We are in the process of physically relocating the server to another location until they restore power.
Which pretty much guarantees power will be restored immediately.
Still no specific time estimate given by the electric company, but they are working on our specific route. The pole in the picture is one of the ones between me at the electric substation and the ISP’s NOC.
They started with 10K locations out and are down to 2K at last update.
6:30 A.M. UPDATE: Our crews have worked overnight and are continuing to make significant progress in our power restoration efforts. At the peak, more than 10k customers were without power. Currently, we have less than 3k still without power.
Teams have worked through the night and the city has brought in neighboring technicians to speed getting power back. There is no “official” repair time, but most estimates state sometime this morning.
I will post more updates as I get them.
Yesterday evening we were hit with a storm that included 80 mph straight line winds. This snapped dozens of power poles throughout town. While our datatcenter has underground services, either some of those poles feed our underground feeds, or had to have our service disabled.
We have received reports of an equipment failure at a substation taking down the electricity for a large area of town about 4000 customers, including our DNS system. Technicians are already on the scene replacing the part.
We are currently in the process of moving our main domain, https://t.co/f6XcM6DfcM, to another registrar. Part of this move is changing our primary DNS servers, but no changes are being made in our client DNS servers. You should not feel a thing.
