With support from @IFRC, Chad Red Cross (@CroixRougeTchad ) teams are on the ground supporting families fleeing Sudan
Since April 2023, the armed conflict in #Sudan has triggered a massive influx of people into #Chad, with more than 900,000 people having crossed the border as of December last year.
The Chad Red Cross, with the support of the @IFRC, is on the ground in Abéché and other surrounding areas to ensure that displaced people and local communities facing food insecurity receive support through food vouchers.
Strong national leadership, local ownership, and strategic partnerships are essential for sustainable health transformation. The SECURE Programme offers a unique opportunity to strengthen community health systems while creating employment and resilience at scale across the Central African Republic.
The IFRC Head of Delegation for CAR and Chad and the President of the Central African Red Cross joined the opening of the high-level co-creation workshop for the SECURE Programme, implemented in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation and chaired by H.E. Dr Pierre Somse, Minister of Health and Population of the Central African Republic.
Over the next four days, government institutions, the Central African Red Cross, IFRC, and key stakeholders will work together to design a nationally owned pathway for strengthening community health systems, expanding economic opportunities for young people and women, and building a resilient health workforce capable of driving sustainable development.
The USD 16 million SECURE Programme represents more than an investment in Community Health Workers, it is an investment in health security, human capital development, local leadership, and the future resilience of the Central African Republic. By bringing together health, employment, education, finance, and community actors around a common vision, this initiative demonstrates the power of partnership in advancing the New Public Health Order for Africa and accelerating progress toward Universal Health Coverage.

Reflection Day on the 8th of May !
On International Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, colleagues at the IFRC Bangui office came together to reflect on what “United in Humanity” means in their daily work. The gathering honored departed colleagues and volunteers with a moment of silence, while post‑it notes captured staff members’ sense of belonging to the Movement. It was a warm, meaningful occasion that celebrated both the challenges faced and the bonds that unite us in service to humanity.
