Today, I had the honor of addressing the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly under the theme: "Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation." 🇺🇳🇿🇼

In a world facing intensifying climate shocks and conflict, humanity’s challenges know no borders. No nation can overcome them alone. To restore global trust, international law must be applied universally—not selectively. It cannot be a shield for some and a sword against others.

As Zimbabwe prepares to take its seat on the UN Security Council for the 2027-2028 term, we do so guided by our foreign policy: "a friend to all and an enemy to none." Our commitments are clear:

:Promoting preventive diplomacy and peaceful conflict resolution.
:Strengthening UN ties with the African Union to silence the guns.
:Advancing the crucial peace and security agendas for women and youth.

True collective security means reforming the Security Council to move past 1945 realities. Africa is united, sovereign, independent, and rising. The outdated "horse and rider" mentality and unilateral coercive measures have no place in modern global discourse.

Peace cannot endure without development. Domestically, Zimbabwe is proving what is possible. Through robust reforms, our GDP has grown three-fold since 2017. Zimbabwe is open for business! We are accelerating food security through climate-smart agriculture and leaving no one and no place behind through aggressive rural industrialization.

Let us protect the UN Charter, reject selective compliance, and build a fairer, more inclusive world for succeeding generations.

Law is law—and regional trade works when rules are respected. COMESA brings together 21 member states, 640+ million people and about US$1 trillion in GDP.

This important global gathering provides an opportunity for nations to engage on pressing international challenges, strengthen cooperation and advance matters of shared concern.

Zimbabwe remains committed to constructive engagement with the international community and to contributing meaningfully to discussions that shape our collective future.

Sovereign equality must remain a foundation of international relations. At #UNGA81, Zimbabwe is advocating for a multilateral system where international rules apply fairly and every nation has a meaningful voice.

Sovereign nations build lasting relationships through formal agreements, mutual respect and clear commitments. Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 and Malta 🇲🇹 have now established diplomatic relations, creating a framework for deeper cooperation in trade, investment and other sectors.
