@dbessner@DougHenwood Sure in the sense of a direct causal line but they are part of this larger historical unwinding, right? Not to say that things will go the way we and/or protestors want but I'm not sure what other tactic is available and these at least point to escalations (for better or worse).
@dbessner@DougHenwood How do you draw a clear line between this and the effects of protest (esp. when many of these people attended the unis where protests are happening)?
@dbessner Probably not your cup of tea, and more CA than LA specific, but Harris's Palo Alto seems like an extension of Davis's project in CoQ. Or maybe it's just an effect of me reading them back to back...
@BenjaminSchFig You sure? I feel like you’d be making a strong connection with the vaping part of the whole person! They could write ignition reflections on the vapor floating in light, while contemplating their inhalation and exhalation of the spectacle.
@n_hold Yeah, I'm inclined to say, vis academic labor/politics, tenure should either be universalized or abolished. If tenure matters in any meaningful way, tenure people should be pressing for the former. If they don't they're just illustrating the need for the latter.
@n_hold It does. Sadly, this points to the weakness of moral obligation vs social imperatives/conditions. TBF, its pretty hard to know how to use tenure well, esp absent organizing. That said, as contingent faculty, tenure looks like a political dead end if not anti-political.
@n_hold Hard agree here though it may be worth considering if the attenuated advantages of tenure might be used to help in organizing/ideological work. Of course, given the psychic investment in tenure based “freedoms” (and hierarchies), might also be more trouble than it’s worth
@n_hold Seems like where the two notions of social reproduction—ideological and material—most clearly overlap; love being the join between market imperative and subjectivization.
