Somewhere on this planet there’s a spot with your name on it. Maybe a forest with bears. Maybe ice with penguins. Maybe desert with camels.
Pick it, pick your crew, ride the fire down.

Into the wild 🌲
The fish you catch swam in that lake.
The wolves at your door hunt as a pack.
The sparrows scatter when the cat comes by.
And every winter, the lake freezes over.
And a lot more.

Behind the scenes: every clip I post now comes out of a camera editor built into the game. Points, timings, labels, Record. It films the shot in the background and hands me a finished clip.
Might turn it into a photo mode for players. Would you use it?

Colonists have a new after-work hobby: boules! Up to four play at a time, every round tops up their fun, and the winners get bragging rights.

Everyone’s stressed after the crash. The cat is living its best life—getting petted on every break and purring in its sleep next to its owner’s bed.

Trains are in 🚂One shared track, both directions, a passing loop in the middle. Signals keep them from meeting head-on — one waits at the red light while the other switches tracks and rolls past.
Still figuring out how aggressive the jam detection should be before it starts flagging normal waiting.

Built a 24 m radio mast today. We weren’t the only crew to crash: others came down all over the planet, and this is how we find them. Two have answered so far, Fernhollow out on the ice and Saltmarsh in a flooded swamp. Both need what our factory makes.

@miketomiwa84 Trying to figure it out 😅 It's not a easy task to make gameplay feel rewarding and also a challenge at the same time. Still very early in development
Benefactory has a settings menu now. Lumen, ray tracing and shadows can all be switched off, and every key can be rebound. My favorite bit is the little bar that estimates what each part of the picture costs per frame.

You can build houses now! Drag out the walls and the door, windows and roof come with them. I built a little village to try it and rode along with Wren as she walked in for supper and sat down by the fire.

Rebuilt all 3 machines today, the drill, the smelter and the constructor. Maybe a mistake to keep them 2x1 tiles.
Also some simple sounds have been added. #gamedev#indiedev
Bob is learning to cook fish stew. He hasn't figured out how to hold the knife yet.
Is this overkill for an RTS camera game? Absolutely, but i like the details. #gamedev#indiedev
Worth adding: only the drawing got smarter. The simulation still runs every miner, belt tile and ore item in the whole factory, on screen or not, even at 10x speed. A tick for all of it averages about 1 ms.
Today was all optimization. I built a stress test with 2,406,000 objects (6,000 miners, 1.2M belt tiles, 1.2M ore on them) and profiled it all day.
Panning across it went from 8 fps to 95-130. Over 10x faster, and I'm happy with that at this scale.

@TheGamesDet Here's Benefactory: belts, machines and a colony that keeps it all running.
Automate the production lines, keep your settlers fed, warm and happy.
Here's a first look. Build machines, run conveyors, look after the people who operate them.
