@KarenHe34029509 I find it interesting that when the “Southwest” became union states, that they didn’t figure out citizenship based on their own laws. I imagine that everyone that the land within the boundary was their home, was classified as a citizen, to include indigenous peoples. #Hist2260

This weeks finishing of the readings has been quite the workup. Civil rights and FBI in New Mexico really caught me off guard. I heard about it more prominently in the east near Atlanta. #Hist2260

@CNMBrandon @dominog82 @Corina_CNM I believe they thought that Spanish was valuable in schools to be able to communicate with other people that did not have English as their first language. Also, Spanish was the universal language among the different peoples of the area. #Hist2260

@CNMBrandon I found it surprising because he was a member of the rough riders, and became president. I assumed his poli al power could have persuaded Congress that the New Mexicans that he rode with were loyal. #Hist2260 The checks and balances actually help to keep that bias in check.

@AndreanaSandov1 Much like the Andean peoples, they kept it alive as a way to preserve their culture. It is claimed that an estimated 10% of the unwritten languages has been lost over time. #Hist2260
