🆘🆘 MICHAEL (ID 251320), 3 YO, MALE – IN QUEENS ACC - came into the shelter as an aco - impound on 4/5/2026. 🆘🆘 😿 😿 😿 😿
➡️TBD 5/2/26
➡️ NEW HOPE PARTNER RESCUE ONLY
➡️ 🆘🆘 1ST Chance on Emergency Placement List – VERY URGENT – 🆘🆘 😱🔥🔥😱
➡️ 26 DAYS IN SHELTER – TOO LONG – TIME IS RUNNING OUT
➡️ MICHAEL IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIORAL REASONS - He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥
A volunteer writes: Michael was abandoned in a pop-up crate outside someone's home and though that's all we know about his life before, Michael wants us to know he's more than that or at least he'd really like the chance to be. Michael was hopping all around his condo when I visited, seemingly excited at the prospect of a visitor but not entirely sure how to entertain one. I assured he'll win the most friends just by being himself and it was more than fine by me if he needed a few extra moments to get ready. I sat by his kennel and read to him as he did and though Michael looked like he was still trying to find a place for himself, he eventually decided his place was leaning into my arms. Theatrically stretching himself out and affectionately looking up, Michael has so much love to share. He's only waiting for someone to give him a little extra moment to get himself together and be the best little kitty he can be. ❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻

Mystique is a solitary cat who is used to having her own space. She would do best in a quiet home where she can decompress and feel safe. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers. ❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻

🆘🆘 JOE (ID 250664), 2 YO, MALE – IN QUEENS ACC - came into the shelter as an aco - impound on 3/27/2026. 🆘🆘 😿 😿 😿 😿

➡️ JOE IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIORAL REASONS - He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥
A volunteer writes: Perhaps feeling a little out of his depth here at the Care Center, Joe's taken to his den to sort things out. I don't want to assume, but I imagine there's an insurmountable kind of tinge to them only exacerbated by Joe's dedication to doing it all on his own. Joe came to us from a home with other cats and may prefer to do things this way as he also may not have a lot of experience meeting new people. We keep trying to explain that though we are new people, we also have treats, toys, blankets, and beds to offer. For his part, Joe seems almost entirely uninterested except not quite as he's adorably a little curious about treats. When it comes to making new friends or finding a forever family, we understand that Joe might have to try it his way first, we're just hoping that his forever family will love and appreciate his efforts as they welcome him into their home. Joe tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter and may be intimidated by small children. ❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻

🆘🆘 GATITO (ID 252340), 9 YO, FEMALE – IN MANHATTAN ACC - came into the shelter as a stray on 4/17/2026. 🆘🆘 😿 😿 😿 😿
➡️TBD 4/30/26
➡️SENIOR ALERT
➡️ MEDICAL PRIORITY – NEEDS MORE CARE AND ATTENTION THAN THE SHELTER CAN PROVIDE
➡️ TOO LOW ON PLEDGES TO STIMULATE RESCUE INTEREST
➡️🆘🆘 4TH Chance on Emergency Placement List – BEYOND URGENT - NO ROOM IN SHELTER – WILL NOT BE GIVEN MUCH MORE TIME – VERY HIGH EU/SILENT KILL RISK – 🆘🆘 😱🔥🔥😱
➡️ 12 DAYS IN SHELTER – TOO LONG – TIME IS RUNNING OUT
➡️ GATITO IS ON THE EPL FOR MEDICAL REASONS - She is an adult cat with persistent bloody urine due to a mass in her bladder. She has warmed up to staff while in shelter but her urinary symptom has not resolved. She needs surgery to biopsy the mass and make an effective treatment plan. This evaluation/diagnosis means that GATITO will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥
What my friends at ACC say about me: Gatito has made significant improvements since her arrival on the 17th and came forward out of the den, curious and sweet. She approached the assessor, arched her back, gently enjoyed petting, leaning in gently for cheek rubs and eating squeeze-up treats. She tolerated being picked up and then was set back down. She got slightly upset and gave a single hiss, but otherwise appeared reasonably calm and very sweet. Towards the end, she did seem to become somewhat aroused and did some additional hissing and a little posturing as if to swat, but then leaned in for more cheek rubbing so she appears to be sweet but a bit conflicted. Gatito interacts with the observer, solicits & appreciates attention, is often easy to handle and tolerates all petting❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻

Gehabt euch wohl.
🆘🆘 MEOW CHOW (ID 249544), 2 YO, MALE – IN MANHATTAN ACC - came into the shelter as a stray on 3/13/2026. 🆘🆘 😿 😿 😿
➡️TBD 4/30/26
➡️ TOO LOW ON PLEDGES TO STIMULATE RESCUE INTEREST
➡️ 🆘🆘 2ND Chance on Emergency Placement List – VERY URGENT – 🆘🆘 😱🔥🔥😱
➡️ 47 DAYS IN SHELTER – TOO LONG – TIME IS RUNNING OUT
➡️ MEOW CHOW IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIORAL REASONS - He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥
A volunteer writes: MeowChow is a handsome 2-year-old intact male tabby who was found in an apartment hallway after some children had been throwing things at him - so it's no surprise this poor boy came to us carrying a little fear in his heart. Since arriving on March 14th, MeowChow has been taking his time feeling safe, and that's okay. He tends to stay at the back of his cubby, flatten his ears when his space is first opened, but he loves food. Offer him a treat or some special wet food and he'll come forward to investigate. He'll even accept gentle head pets (see videos). He has occasionally hissed when startled, though not all his caregivers have seen it. What we do notice more is a distressed, almost mournful meow - less of an angry sound and more like a little cry. MeowChow is not a frightened-aggressive cat. He is a frightened, sad cat who simply hasn't found his place and his person yet. He is clean, using his litter box consistently, and taking care of himself. MeowChow is looking for a very patient, experienced adopter - someone who understands that some cats unfold slowly, and who will give him the quiet space and time to come out entirely on his own terms. A calm, child-free home is a must. Whether another pet would help or hinder is unknown, so any introduction would need to be done thoughtfully. If you're the kind of person who finds joy in earning a cat's trust rather than expecting it - MeowChow may be your perfect match. Meow Chow tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Due to the behavior shown, he may not be a great fit for young children. Any home with older children prepared to adopt this cat should conduct a thorough interaction and endeavor to monitor this cat around their children to prevent these behaviors from being reinforced. ❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻
