African Bank moved R685 million in a way that made their capital look stronger… but regulators said nothing actually changed.
Let me show you exactly what that means using a simple story you won’t forget.
A Case Study
In Midrand, Pieter van Wyk (CA(SA)) signed off a new warehouse automation process that reduced payment cycle time by 48% and was celebrated as a major efficiency win.
Six months later, Thabo Maseko, a process engineer who had quietly questioned the design from day one, helped uncover R12.1m in losses flowing through the exact same process that had been approved as “tight.”
A Thread.
Lol as someone who owns a marketing agency, I can tell you all these AI marketing platforms are way overhyped.
Most of them are honestly trash. The output is usually worse than what I’d expect from an intern, and the advice is always the same recycled basic marketing and SEO nonsense.
They don’t sit in front of clients. They don’t build trust. They don’t handle problems when a client is upset, confused, or needs real strategy. They don’t understand that the end client is a human, and most people still do not want to talk to a robot when real money is on the line.
They also are not out filming content, building real creative, managing shoots, directing messaging, or handling the million little things that actually make campaigns work. AI video still looks fake as hell half the time, and not every business is some SaaS company that can run on generic automated content.
Marketing agencies are not dead. AI is just another tool. It can help streamline certain processes, speed up production, and assist with research or drafts, but it still needs real people behind it.
AI also screws up constantly. It overpromises, misses nuance, and puts out work that still has to be fixed, adjusted, or completely reworked. So no, I’m not worried. Let me know when AI can sit across from a client face to face, earn their trust, solve problems in real time, and actually own the outcome. It can’t, because it’s not human.
Just read that Starbucks lost $30B after hiring a McKinsey consultant as CEO.
Guy spent his career advising founders how to build companies, but never built one himself.
17 months later, he’s gone.
They bring in the Taco Bell CEO…
and the market cap jumps $20B overnight.
Turns out running a company is harder than advising one.
WATCH | Lt Gen. Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has raised concerns about South Africa relying on a single scanner to inspect goods at ports of entry, saying, "We're unable to search things coming into the country."
Advice to men:
If things are tough where you are: Run to a different place and start afresh.
Go to a different province or find creative ways to enter a foreign country and start afresh.
See yourself as having multiple lives if you have to. There's no shame in leaving it all for a fresh start somewhere where no one knows you.
You are a man for a reason.
In SA, being signed to a label doesn’t mean you’ll be successful. If you don’t have a team to help you make use of the machinery the label has to offer, you’ll end up blaming the label for “not doing anything”.
Dare I say, independent artists like Kamo and Cass are doing better than some signed artists simply because they have better teams behind them than some of the signed artists do.
So, dear artists…focus on building a solid team and then shop for a label deal that can help with infrastructure support IF necessary. Signing is not the end all and be all of your career.
@MolebatsiTurf Lt Gen Mkwananzi says he has evidence in hand, yet Mchunu is on leave, not dismissed. The President is playing the long game — again. 🕰️⚖️
@VusiThembekwayo Exactly.
His words didn’t just address crime he shook the system. The reactions we’re seeing are unfiltered truths. As citizens, it’s our responsibility to observe, question, and remember who showed their hand when it mattered most.
@ThabaKoena If Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is fired, he won’t remain silent with over 30+ years of elite tactical and leadership experience, he will partner with the private sector security to protect South Africans and continue his mission to fix the country.
