To fellowship with God is to love Him, demonstrated by a life of obedience. And loving God means not loving the world.
When John speaks of "the world", he's referring to the principles, ideologies, and systems that govern the ungodly.
Loving the world, then, means sharing in the same hopes and values as the world. It is to set our hope on this world, living without regard for eternity or the God to whom we will give account. It is to walk according to the flesh, satisfying the desires of body and mind.
To love God—not the world—with our mind, heart, soul and strength, we must always behold Christ, who died for our sins so we may have eternal life. Instead of satisfying bodily desires, let us honour God with our bodies as we eagerly await glorification. Instead of fulfilling the desires of the eyes, let us long to see God. Instead of pursuing the pride of life, let our boast be in Christ.

Considering The fact you don’t even bring this up as your point of interest in conversations, you shouldn’t be so upset about it.

Keep these in mind and your view of salvation will be sound. And you will never be offended or cause it.
