Maybe things needed to escalate into the bloodiest war in American history. Mostly white, young, with their entire lives ahead of them…except for the 650,000 killed.
Why didn't the Republican Party free the slaves in Missouri, Kentucky, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia and New Jersey?
Was it because they only wanted to free slaves that were owned by the Democratic Party?
But Democrats still in the Union got to keep their slaves!
There is not a single state in America where a full-time minimum wage job covers a two-bedroom apartment. Not one.
That's not an opinion. That's from the National Low Income Housing Coalition's annual Out of Reach report. And the numbers behind that headline are staggering.
The federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. The housing wage needed to afford a modest two-bedroom apartment nationally is $33.63 an hour. That's more than four times the federal minimum wage.
To put it another way, a minimum wage worker would need to work 116 hours a week to afford that apartment. There are only 168 hours in a week total.
That leaves 52 hours for sleeping, eating, and everything else that makes up a human life.
And it gets worse depending on where you live.
In California you need $49.61 an hour. Massachusetts $45.90. Even in West Virginia, the most affordable state on the list, you need $18.49 an hour. The federal minimum wage doesn't clear that bar anywhere.
Here's the part that doesn't get talked about enough.
This isn't just a minimum wage problem. Nearly half of all U.S. renter households are cost burdened, spending more than 30% of their income on housing.
Of the 25 most common jobs in America, 18 of them pay median wages that fall below the two-bedroom housing wage.
Those 18 occupations employ 74 million people. Nearly half the entire U.S. workforce.
This is a middle class problem as much as it's a minimum wage problem.
I grew up watching a parent struggle financially. I know what it feels like when the math just doesn't work no matter how hard you try.
The gap between wages and housing costs in this country has reached a point where working harder isn't enough to close it for tens of millions of people.
That's the part that should make everyone uncomfortable.
President Obama masterfully negotiated an agreement that prevented Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
Trump tore it up and went to war—only to lose the lives of 13 brave Americans, raise prices at the pump, and sign a failure of a “deal” that costs taxpayers billions.
Utah, Senator Lee's state, completed a comprehensive voter examination. Of two million voters, one noncitizen registered to vote and NO noncitizen voted.
The SAVE Act is traditional Republican nonsense and Mike Lee is an embarrassment to Utah.
As an informed Utahn, I declare bullshit on the Admiral’s position. We monitor and protect citizen rights, thus the audit. Not the first, nor the last audit. Problems were uncovered. Remedies are in process…or we would remove those responsible.
Utah already has policies similar to the Save America Act. Our voter fraud will be held in check. Clean up your own civil rights disasters. Yes, voter rights are civil rights.
No politician forced the Utah voter audit, because politicians know voters would require it. And the small voter fraud in Utah is being addressed. Do the same, please.
Every whistleblower deserves to be heard. They risk their livihood. Investigate.
Gov. Newsom could address the uncovered evidence…or continue to smear the whistleblower, the investigators, and Trump.
When was the whistle blown? What was the accusation? Trump had nothing to do with uncovering Newsom fraud.
@YourAnonNews You are completely correct. The Reflecting pool is, and always will be a cesspool of bacteria and stench. No effort should try to fix it.
WAIT. WHAT? Do you always quit?
