The concert opens with Vítězslava Kaprálová's Suita rustica – a tribute to Czech folk music by a prodigiously gifted composer who died at just 25. Julia Fischer then presents Josef Suk's Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra, a work of brilliant virtuosity and quiet drama. The concert closes with Bohuslav Martinů's First Symphony, written in exile in America and evoking a lost homeland through folk melodies and dance rhythms.

Musiker der Berliner Philharmoniker und der Karajan-Akademie brachten die Musik direkt in den Kiez: in eine Kontakt- und Beratungsstelle für psychisch erkrankte Menschen, in den Görlitzer Park, in ein Pflegewohnheim, ins F1 Stadtteilzentrum am Mehringplatz, in zwei Kitas und in eine Grundschule.

Auf dem Programm steht auch die sehnsuchtsvolle »Suita rustica« von Vítězslava Kaprálová. Als große Hoffnungsträgerin ihrer Heimat in der Zwischenkriegszeit verstummte ihre Stimme viel zu früh, als sie 1940 mit nur 25 Jahren im Exil starb. Ein unvollendetes Kapitel tschechischer Musikgeschichte, das es neu zu entdecken gilt.
