Happy birthday, Daddy. Thank you for being a bold purveyor of true peace. Thank you for living with purpose and for radically lifting the power of love. Thank you for believing that we can defeat injustice without destroying each other. Thank you for your courage and strategic, compassionate action. Thank you for teaching me so much, even now. I remember you today, on your 97th birthday. I remember you always.

52 years ago today, my paternal grandmother, Mrs. Alberta Williams King, from whom I get my middle name, Albertine, was shot and killed while playing “The Lord’s Prayer” at Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Her life was rooted in faith, music, family, and service. She helped shape my father’s spiritual foundation and poured love, strength, and dignity into our family.
To remember her is to remember that violence does not have the final word. Love, faith, and legacy still speak.
I honor her today with deep gratitude. The music and the memories still live on.

Three years ago today, my beloved Aunt Christine, Dr. Christine King Farris, passed.
She was a brilliant educator, a woman of deep faith and grace, and a steady source of wisdom in our family. I miss her dearly and remain grateful for her love, her example, and the legacy she left through generations of students and all who knew her.

My brother Dexter Scott King offered something deeply personal in Growing Up King: An Intimate Memoir, with Ralph Wiley.
Through his reflections, readers encounter my father not only as a leader, but as a father, and they receive a closer look at the bond they shared.
This June selection for The King Center Legacy Book Club helps preserve Dexter’s voice, our family’s story, and the humanity within the King legacy.

My father’s commitment to nonviolence was rooted in faith, strengthened by discipline, and lived through action.
His methodology still teaches us how to confront injustice without surrendering our humanity and how to create peace rooted in justice, love, dignity, and courage.

On a recent episode of From Moment to Movement with Tamara Banks, I shared why my father’s teaching that “hate cannot drive out hate” remains so necessary.
Hate only keeps hate alive. We still have to live together in this world. We still have to make decisions that either deepen harm or move us toward healing.
Nonviolence365® helps us choose another way.

The Supreme Court’s decision allowing the Trump administration to end legal protections for Haitians and Syrians is heartbreaking and morally dangerous.
We are talking about people who fled violence, instability, natural disaster, civil war, and conditions no human being should be forced to endure. Many have built lives here, raised families here, worked here, and contributed to communities across this nation.
America has a long history of deciding which people are worthy of refuge, dignity, and protection, too often along lines of race, ethnicity, religion, and national origin. We must tell the truth about that history. Black and Brown people seeking safety have too often been met with suspicion, cruelty, and rejection instead of compassion and justice.
Temporary Protected Status was created to protect people from being sent back into danger. Ending those protections for Haitian and Syrian families is not just a legal decision. It is a moral one.
We must choose humanity.

On June 26, 1968, my mother, Coretta Scott King, founded The King Center as a living memorial to my father’s life, work, and legacy.
She understood that remembrance alone would not be enough. The legacy needed a place, a purpose, and an ongoing commitment to nonviolence, education, training, and creating the Beloved Community.
Today, I honor her vision by continuing the work she began: preserving the history, teaching Nonviolence365, and helping equip people across generations to build a more just, humane, peaceful, and equitable world.

Children.
Let that sink in.
According to a new UN inquiry, Israeli authorities and security forces have deliberately targeted Palestinian children in Gaza, resulting in genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes.
No government, army, ideology, or political argument can make the killing, starvation, displacement, and traumatizing of children morally acceptable. A world that excuses the destruction of children has lost its moral center.
We must not grow numb. We must demand an end to genocide, protection for Palestinian children, unrestricted humanitarian aid, accountability for these atrocities, and every child’s right to live in dignity, safety, and peace.

As we approach the anniversary of my mother founding The King Center, I’m reflecting on what she knew so clearly: legacy needed structure. Memory alone was never enough.
She built an official living memorial to preserve and advance my father’s life, work, and legacy. She created an institution rooted in nonviolence, education, training, and the belief that the Beloved Community must be taught, practiced, and carried forward across generations.
The King Center was her answer to that call, and her vision still guides us.
