The resignation of former Public Works Secretary Rogelio “Babes” Singson from the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) effective December 15 is not just the departure of a respected public servant—it is a symbol of the commission’s collapse in credibility.

The ICI was created to project accountability, but in practice it has become a shield for the president, a modern-day Pontius Pilate absolving himself of responsibility while the nation bears the consequences.

Sec. Singson’s presence was meant to lend legitimacy to a body already questioned for its independence. His exit exposes the truth: the ICI has failed to deliver justice, transparency, and reform.

The results of the commission’s work remain deeply questionable. While ordinary citizens are scrutinized, the “big fishes” continue to swim free, untouched by the very mechanisms supposedly designed to hold them accountable. This selective justice erodes public trust and deepens cynicism about governance.

Sec. Singson’s credibility, once a pillar of public service, now risks being overshadowed by his association with a commission that has lost its moral compass. His resignation should serve as a wake-up call: institutions cannot survive on borrowed credibility. They must earn it through genuine independence, courage, and results.

The Filipino people deserve more than commissions that serve as political cover.

They deserve truth, accountability, and leaders who do not shrink from responsibility. The ICI’s failure is not just institutional—it is a betrayal of public trust.
