I’m certain my least memorable song will be remembered more fondly and for more time than anything you ever do with your life will be. Everything you say is more “whiny” and “edgy” than I was at any point on that album. But at least I had the excuse of going through chemo.
Halsey responds to Anthony Fantano saying that people cared more about his review of her last album ‘The Great Impersonator’ than the album itself:

2. Her second Oscar nomination nearly 40 years after her first
3. Delivered a performance in a horror film, a genre the Academy has historically overlooked
4. Faced strong competition whose films were all nominated for more than six Oscars including Best Picture, unlike Weapons
5. Didn’t sweep the entire season and wasn’t even nominated at the BAFTAs
6. Was almost unrecognizable in the role
7. And while she’s a respected veteran, she wasn’t exactly one of those names people immediately think of at her age unlike Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, or Sigourney Weaver who are also in their 70s
I genuinely don’t understand how anyone could see Amy Madigan’s win as a “career” or “legacy” award. In retrospect, she could have very easily lost this race, which makes the win feel even more earned rather than some automatic legacy recognition. Say what you will about the result, but this is absolutely NOT a career win. She’s simply that good in Weapons that the industry responded to the performance itself without any major “long overdue” narrative driving it. And you can't make any excuse out of that 🤷
