HIGH-LEVEL DISCUSSION-I: IMPACT OF DISASTERS ON AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SYSTEMS

Mayor of Bethlehem – Palestine Maher Canawati, in his address highlighted the impact of occupation on the agricultural yields, water and other natural resources and how these restrictions and confiscations is economically depriving the Palestinians in the occupied territories.

He also stressed that Palestinians must be given their Right to Self Determination and access to all resources that local communities can benefit from.

في كلمته، أكد رئيس بلدية بيت لحم – فلسطين، السيد ماهر قنواتي، على تأثير الاحتلال على الإنتاج الزراعي والمياه والموارد الطبيعية الأخرى، وكيف أن هذه المصادرات والقيود تحرم الفلسطينيين اقتصاديًا في الأراضي المحتلة.

كما شدّد على ضرورة تمكين الشعب الفلسطيني من حقه في تقرير المصير والوصول إلى كافة الموارد التي يمكن أن تستفيد منها المجتمعات المحلية.

Filistin’in Beytüllahim Belediye Başkanı Maher Canawati, konuşmasında işgalin tarımsal verim, su ve diğer doğal kaynaklar üzerindeki etkisine değindi ve bu kısıtlamalar ile el koymaların, işgal altındaki topraklarda yaşayan Filistinlileri ekonomik olarak nasıl mahrum bıraktığını vurguladı.

Ayrıca, Filistinlilere kendi kaderini tayin etme hakkının ve yerel toplulukların yararlanabileceği tüm kaynaklara erişim hakkının tanınması gerektiğinin altını çizdi.
