In the remaining days of school, you may see some out of character behaviors from some students. Remember that not all students look forward to summer break. For some students, school is their safe place… where they receive consistent food, where they feel most successful, where they are surrounded by kindness and love, and where they can just be themselves. All behaviors are communication. Respond first with empathy and compassion. Thank you for everything you do for our kids! Have an amazing and well-deserved summer break!
I will be traveling the country providing “Maslow Before Bloom” trainings this Summer and Fall. I would love to come to your school or district. Please message or email me for more info [email protected].

Superintendents should require all central office administrators, including themselves, to work in schools one-half day each semester. Elementary one semester, secondary the other. Actually work—not just visit! Some districts already do this or something similar.
If a formal observation is the first time you are in a teachers classroom, then put the evaluation form away. Sit, listen, and then leave a note of thanks, praise or encouragement. Relationships first!
Woohoo! I just completed the NEW @edpuzzle Trainer certification! I am ready to share my shine and empower others! You can do it too! Check out @edpuzzle 's certifications

Students who have IEPs are not "special education students." They are just students. They belong to every teacher they have. Receiving a service doesn't change a students identity as a student. #LeadInclusion#EdChat#UDL#Inclusion
@Edpuzzle just announced Teacher Assist at #Bett2023. So excited about this new feature that will save me so much time! Can’t wait to try the new generate questions tool and auto-grading for open-ended questions. #EdpuzzleMagic
Admin, take time next week to
*say hello to staff/students in the hall
* check on teachers, especially if they have life events they’re dealing with
* sit in on classes & leave note of praise
* let staff know you appreciate them
* ask what staff needs to succeed
* encourage all
Teachers shouldn't have to cover classes, give up planning time, work 20 extra hours a week, do extra tasks, etc. just to be considered effective or all in. Teachers give above and beyond already without it becoming the expectation. It's why there is a huge teacher shortage!
Besides the many issues with standardized testing. Most students have no idea what they missed on the tests and teachers don't either. And by time they get results students have moved on to next grade. Making it useless to evaluate teachers & districts too.
Thanksgiving giveaway! I am so thankful for all the educators who give so much of themselves every day for our students. Just retweet for a chance to win a copy of #DearTeacher Winner will be announced Thursday at 8pm.
