@ChristinaSchea1 I think our immigration laws need to be changed. We have more of a crisis now than ever with the focus on the "Wall." There was never this many coming over at once until recently. I think most coming are looking for a better opportunity.
@mari_l_niesen I get the idea behind the class but we should remember informed consent is important. That was taken from these parents. When the class on sex ed and puberty is given in 5th grade,a consent form with information is sent home. A great opportunity was lost here.
The shortage of available affordable housing is causing and increase in homelessness in New Orleans and many for the first time. Government leaders are being called upon to invest in affordable housing for the area. #SUSocialWork https://t.co/jLP0JmgV0j
Truck drivers can help combat human trafficking by reporting signs of human trafficking. There is currently bill being introduced that if tased would would require truck driving instructors to teach the signs of human trafficking in some way. #SUsocialwork

The amount of children who are visiting the emergency room because of suicidal thoughts and attempt has nearly doubled since 2007. This includes children as young as five. We need to figure out what is going on with today's youth #SUsocialwork

@DuffyKaislie That number is alarming. As kids get older not all parents teach these things to them or we don't think about. It is something to be more aware of and skills we need to teach our youth as they become adults.
This has been an ongoing battle since 2011. Lets hope they can come to a conclusion soon in order to improve the system in order to help these children who so desperately need help. #SUsocialwork

@tjbugg1 I agree cutting funding to these programs that the elderly depend to get the nutrition and maintain as well as maintain their independence is not the answer. We should take better care of those who raised us when they need us most.
@DuffyKaislie This is an extremely vulnerable population. It is sad that because someone is poor that they are not able to access the health care they need. I agree this is an example of why social justice is important to social work.
@mrslujan1 I think this is great. I think this could allow those who are homeless to know that they still have people out there who care about them and family members to know where their loved ones are.
There is a lot of commerce that goes in and out of the border each day. I think this will cause further harm rather than doing any good. #SUsocialwork

Living in the border city I am able to see this immigration issue first hand and it is sad. There are so many immigrants coming in daily. I am not sure what needs to be done but this is not it. #SUsocialwork

@amberjuarez29 I remember being a kid in school and would see my fellow class mates come to school with ashes on their head. I was always so fascinated with these traditions. I agree there needs to be training.
@Rach13751664 This is a great read. I like how they point out examples of what well intended workers say that are not helpful and how to rephrase that. I agree these are important conversations that need to happen.
As the headline reads who is going to care for the Baby Boomers when there is a high turn over rate for home care workers who work for low wages. Many Americans do not want these jobs. Nursing homes and retirement communities prices are high #SUsocialwork

@stephanie33460 I agree Susan, as social workers we need to get out of our comfort zones and get comfortable with having tough conversations. We need to know the warning signs and know the questions to ask. We also need to be aware of and get past the myths about suicide.
