PLATE 22: WINDOW ON ETERNITY – According to the alchemist Gerhard Dorn, whoever opens his soul to the spiritual “influx of the divine” receives the revivifying experience of a higher world order. A “spiracle of eternal life” or “window on eternity” opens up and gives the soul “an opportunity to escape from the stifling grip of a one-sided view of the world” (C.G. Jung: Mysterium Coniunctionis, CW 14, § 763). The artist has himself become part of this cosmic spirit, for it uses the hand of a mortal man in order to reveal its mysterious constellations. Oil pastel, August 1970
Commentary by Marie-Louise von Franz, Light from the Darkness: Paintings by Peter Birkhäuser, p. 64

Gary Sparks' use of this story is so beautiful and essential, every time I read it I want to thank him.
All inner work has meaning and offers something precious to the collective. Especially in bad times.
Sending positive thoughts Gary's way right now.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
From Preface to Jung and Toynbee.
An active imagination described in Adler's The Living Symbol: a delicate flower, protected & transported faithfully during a perilous journey, fits perfectly to form the last essential piece in a collective mosaic.
All consciousness is needed.
In rough times, I re-read Gary Sparks' book Carl Jung & Arnold Toynbee: The Social Meaning of Inner Work.
There *is* a point to doing the work, even while all hell is breaking loose.
MORE point, actually.
Thinking of Gary Sparks today. ❤️
Wonderful thinker & writer & person.
