Relationships are so beautiful when you and your partner are actually good friends. You show up together, share inside jokes, talk openly, have fun, and totally vibe like besties. They shouldn’t replace your actual friends but it’s so amazing when the dynamic isn't just romantic.
Signs of Emotionally Available People:
1. Don’t erupt or go into irrational behaviors when feelings are expressed
2. Can have difficult conversations
3. Can listen to a different perspective
4. Words align with actions (in short, they do what they say they will)
5. Apologize when they’re hurtful or act out of character
6. Do not use silence to punish
7. They’re secure: they do not thrive off of negative intensity, drama, or chaos
Neuroception is an automatic process of determining if a situation in our environment is dangerous or safe. Unresolved trauma creates faulty neuroception, meaning we perceive threats where they don't exist (ie: interpret a neutral face as a scowl) or we don't see danger where it exists (ie: overly trusting/no cues that situation is dangerous.)
