Mayor Brandon Johnson once referred to policing as a “sickness,” yet the teen riots are continuing to grow in size and frequency.

Some young people have even reached out to us, saying they believe there should be greater accountability—not only for those committing crimes, but also for parents when appropriate under the law.

At the same time, Chicago taxpayers deserve answers. Why have millions of dollars been spent on violence prevention (CVI) programs if these incidents continue? What results have those investments produced? And why are affordable housing units sitting unused while the city continues to face serious challenges?

Until we get real accountability and a strategy that restores public safety, it’s time for stronger action. If local resources are not enough to protect residents and restore order, then the National Guard should be considered to help stabilize the situation.

Chicago deserves safe neighborhoods, transparent government, and leaders who are willing to confront these issues head-on.
