@sentdefender In 2020 SECDEF Esper actually ordered all dependents out of Bahrain by AUG 2023. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Of note, Qatar pressed hard for years to get US dependents stationed there, but thankfully somebody was smart enough to not let that happen.

This just tells me the unit served its purpose, they've captured the tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP) they deemed most relevant, and it's now time to integrate and iterate them into doctrine and training in line units.

The Army 2027 drone and counter drone budget request is at least triple that of 2026, so its obvious drones will play a significant role in future Army operations.

I also think its important to realize that Ukraine uses drones extensively not because they are a superior "secret weapon" but rather because they lack the air power, artillery, long range offensive missiles, and Joint capabilities that the US brings to any fight.

🇺🇦🇺🇸 The U.S. Army is already killing off its Ukraine-inspired drone battalion.

The 600-soldier unit was created just this January to test drones, ground robots and new ways of fighting.

Now, after one final exercise in Germany, it’s going back to regular airborne infantry.

And some military experts think that’s a pretty bad call.

Ukraine has basically rewritten modern warfare with cheap drones, electronic warfare and robots. Walking away from a unit built specifically to learn from that has people scratching their heads.

Especially because the Pentagon itself is still betting big on drones, with Pete Hegseth backing a $1.1 billion push.

So drones aren’t going anywhere. The Army just seems to have other plans for how it wants to use them.
