It's #PharmacyTechnicianDay, and what better way to mark it than an archive visit for the St Bartholomew's Hospital pharmacy techs? They found out about the history of dispensing and pharmacy at Bart's, & used items from our handling collection to try their hand at making pills!

…history of the pharmacy department, such as photos of the old dispensary, historic medicine bottles & manufacturing records dating back to the 19th century… They even got to try making pills on the old equipment!

Our St. Bartolomew’s site is the oldest hospital in the UK, having celebrated its 900th birthday last year. As part of our #RxTechDay celebrations yesterday the @BHAandM kindly arranged a visit for some of our team.

Anthony and Sashi are two of our procurement pharmacy technicians. They work to ensure a good supply of medication across the Trust, liaising with staff throughout the organisation to quickly respond to patient needs. #RxTechDay

Kristian is our most senior Clinical Trials Pharmacy Technician, and oversees the team that ensure all our studies are delivered in strict accordance to their protocols. This contributes to finding new treatments that help patients live better for longer. #RxTechDay

Ade is the Lead Pharmacy Technician for governance in our Royal London dispensary. She oversees compliance with the legal and ethical requirements around supplies of medications. #RxTechDay

The training process is rigorous, and includes ensuring colleagues know how to gown up appropriately. No one is allowed to enter any of our labs without first passing various accreditations, ensuring we maintain the highest standards for our patients. #RxTechDay 2/2

Sharon and Kathy are our education pharmacy technicians in technical services, shown here training our newest colleagues in aseptic processes.

They do this for all new starters in all roles joining the team, including trainee pharmacy technicians like Nadeeja. #RxTechDay 1/2

Amelia and David are the Lead Medicines Management Pharmacy Technicians for our Cardiac and Respiratory Teams.

They oversee our ward-based support staff and pharmacy technicians to ensure our patients medicines are recorded and supplied safely. #RxTechDay

Our team at St. Bartolomew’s includes a primary care service, where Stacey is our pharmacy technician. Along with her colleagues she helps identify patients at risk of heart attacks and strokes, and supports them with treatment to reduce this risk. #RxTechDay

Janai & Shantaya are two of our newest trainee pharmacy technicians, with both on their first rotations. Over two years they will attend college and be trained in dispensary, wards, technical services and stores, ensuring they are ready to become pharmacy technicians. #RxTechDay

Our pharmacy department operates throughout all five of our sites, as well as in our local communities, undertaking a wide variety of roles and duties in different specialist areas.
