A critical PHP flaw was disclosed today. PHP runs many Indian govt websites.

We’re asking the Centre and States for an urgent directive to:
→ inventory all PHP systems
→ patch or isolate within 48 hrs
→ upgrade end-of-life versions

With AI, these upgrades are now far easier.

The NCSC is encouraging UK organisations to prepare for immediate updating of systems using PHP. Where immediate remediation is not feasible, organisations should consider taking the system offline until it can be fully mitigated.

Last week, I helped patch updates to a software used by a state's animal health helpline number. Think 108 but for animals.

I had volunteered to help because the vendor was no longer responsive and some key fixes were needed in the software. It didn't have the needed reports exportable therefore the team mantained manual registers, admins couldn't add new logins, no app for field units etc.

It's a stack I've never written code for in my life and there is no documentation or communication with the now absent vendor. But with Claude Code + experience of pre-AI software engineering was enough to help fix the software and make life easier for operators.

Golden era of gov-tech awaits. Very excited for the coming decade.
