FC Augsburg mourns the loss of Alexander Manninger. The former FCA goalkeeper passed away suddenly on Thursday morning at the age of 48. 🕯

Born in Salzburg, he began his career at Austria Salzburg before making history in 1997: he became the first Austrian to join the English Premier League, signing with Arsenal. He subsequently played for numerous clubs, primarily in Italy, before the 33-time Austrian international moved to FC Augsburg in 2012.

RIP Alex Manninger. In the 1997/98 and 1998/99 seasons, he only made 13 league appearances for Arsenal but kept 10 clean sheets (including a club record six in a row) and saved this Michael Owen penalty.
