I woke up to seeing that NYSC have been reformed to:

From 3 weeks to 6 weeks in camp

New uniforms

Graduation ceremony

And scrapping off soldier's parade.

I don't even know how to feel about it.

Why am I sending a whole 6 weeks in a camp that's somehow not conducive.

What's the essence of the graduation ceremony and uniform change?

I met Alex three times, and on each occasion, he honoured me in a way I will never forget. No one has ever shown me such honour before. He was truly a great son.

The first time, he came to my house with a cow, ogene performers, and other gifts to invite me to the premiere of Afamefuna, the movie he featured in alongside Stan Nze. When I arrived at the venue, I was welcomed by masquerades. It was an experience I will never forget.

The second and third times, he visited my hotel room with gifts, fruits, and money, asking me to pray for him.

I also want to appreciate his friend, IK Ogbonna. He was indeed a good friend to Alex, both in life and in death.

I heard Alex was making big plans for my 80th birthday next year, but sadly, he is no longer here.

May he rest in peace, and may God give his family the strength to bear this loss.

Alex came, he saw, and he left an indelible impression.

Federal Government Extends NYSC Orientation Camp to Six Weeks, Scraps Military Drills and Passing Out Parade

The Federal Government has approved a major overhaul of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), extending the orientation camp programme from three weeks to six weeks as part of wide-ranging reforms aimed at repositioning the scheme.

As part of the changes, military drills and parade activities during the orientation camp have been scrapped. The traditional Passing Out Parade at the end of the one-year service will also be replaced with a graduation ceremony.

The reforms are designed to make the NYSC more skills-driven and better equipped to prepare corps members for the workforce and entrepreneurship.

The government also approved the introduction of a redesigned NYSC uniform to reflect professionalism and give the scheme a renewed identity.

The changes form part of the Federal Government’s broader plan to modernise the NYSC and align it with the country’s economic and youth development objectives.
