Ethanol will hurt the BJP electorally, not because of car owners, the are just 8% of the population, but because of bike owners, who make up 60%.
Every issue with a bike, irrespective of whether it's due to ethanol or not, is being blamed on ethanol. Remember that the overwhelming majority of car and bike mechanics are not your voters and, in fact, they hate you and you know why. They are actively telling anyone with any bike issue that it is due to ethanol. Not only does it serve a political purpose, but it is also easy and convincing.
Car and bike dealers are equally happy to lean into this excuse because it completely deflects blame away from the manufacturers and their own service centers. If a part fails prematurely or a vehicle suffers from a chronic engineering defect, blaming ethanol allows dealers to shift the responsibility onto government policy rather than admitting to poor build quality or honoring warranty claims. It gives them a convenient, politically charged scapegoat that customers readily accept, shielding the automotive brands from reputational damage.
It's up to the BJP to smell the coffee. The issue is no longer on Twitter and no longer raised just by English-speaking metro car owners. It has gone to the ground. There is still time to wake up and make corrections.
P.S. I'm not defending ethanol here. It does damage engines and parts. I've been strongly opposing it and will keep doing so. I'm only saying what's happening on the ground. The BJP should do a course correction on ethanol solely because its implementation was wrong and correcting it is only logical. However, since politicians see every controversy from the standpoint of electoral gains and losses, I'm telling them that it will hurt them electorally too.
I'm 💯 sure that this Gadkari and BJP Govt won't be able to implement the Isobutanol blending in Diesel like they did with Ethanol in Petrol.
As soon as a drop is noticed in the Diesel mileage, the entire truck union of India will go on a strike bringing the entire country to a standstill. And the Govt will be left with no option but to rollback the decision to blend Isobutanol in Diesel.
It's just us the middle class Petrol car owners that do not hold this kind of weight on the Central Govt as the truck owners do.
Problems with Ethanol policy can easily be solved within hours by just making few changes.
1. Sell pure petrol at current price for non compatible vehicles.
2. Sell E20 at 10% lower price for compatible vehicles.
3. Don't increase the ethanol percentage for next 10 years.
But this Govt won't do it because continuous power have made them arrogant and success in state elections given them a false illusion that public are with them anyway.

Vehicle buyers pay huge upfront taxes, fees, and cesses. In return, they deserve the basic right to buy the exact fuel their vehicle engines were designed to run on.
If the govt wanted to "experiment" with E20 fuel, they should have done it responsibly by either buying a sample fleet of second-hand cars to test in a controlled settings or invite willing citizens to opt-in using subsidized fuel.
Forcing a mandatory policy onto everyone first and checking if it damages their engines later is outrageous. Treating the entire public as involuntary test subjects is a massive overreach.
To the public: "E20 fuel is safe and fully tested."
To the Supreme Court: "It’s just an experiment, we’ll know results next year."
The government completely lied about E20 readiness. They rushed this rollout to serve vested interests and corporate logistics, leaving millions of everyday vehicle owners to act as guinea pigs in a forced, destructive trial. Complete betrayal of public trust. #EthanolScam
