Ubuntu + Docker + Kubernetes

On paper, that’s a ridiculous amount of homelab for $300.

But six cheap PCs also means:

6 power bricks
6 network ports
6 machines running 24/7

And those old Mini PCs usually give you just 1GbE per node.

That’s fine for Kubernetes.

Start pushing distributed storage or heavy East-West traffic through Ceph or Longhorn and the network can become the bottleneck very quickly.

Sometimes one newer PC with Proxmox makes more sense than six cheap nodes.

Still, I love builds like this.

$50 Mini PCs are probably one of the best ways to learn infrastructure without spending serious money.

if 12gb of vram is the entry point of the local ai quest, then 2x dgx spark with 256gb of unified ram or vram is the point where you don't miss the frontier anymore.

now i am running qwen 3.8 flash next fp8 on my 2x dgx spark with vision and full context, it builds insane stuff you have no idea of and it's better at frontend design than any of the humans i've met.
