Ted was a cable TV giant, a great ally in the early cable TV era. ESPN beat the launch of CNN by a year, but we had many shared goals and traveled the same circles as we charged into the vast domains of sports and news. RIP, Ted - it was a great run! I treasure our friendship.

Tremendous honor for @Bill_ESPN just before a date all the ESPN pioneers love, Sept. 7 (this year the 46th anniversary). It has been a thrill for me this year working with the now Hall of Famer on a doc on the amazing story of the launch of ESPN.
45 years on the air and ESPN is still going strong!
If you're curious, that’s 540 months, 16,437 days or 394,488 hours of sports programming. And that's only on one channel . . .

My book Sports Junkies Rejoice! The Birth of ESPN has all the details of that day 45 years ago when the first 24 hour channel launched on September 7, 1979 at 7 pm.

On the eve of ESPN’s 45th birthday, @JeremySchaap takes you back with @Bill_ESPN and a terrific look at the launch. Lee Leonard’s answer to “Why Bristol” always makes me laugh.

Christmas is coming and here are 2 great books for your hard-to-buy-for friend or relative: Sports Junkies Rejoice! The Birth of ESPN is the story of how it all started and ESPN: One Giant Leap for Fankind is the rest of my story, my memoir.
Find them both on Amazon.
What a great celebration we had yesterday in Bristol! Wow - it is great to see the enthusiasm and smiles across the plaza. Thanks for including me, Josh @jksports.
ESPN turns 44 years old today. Grateful to ESPN Founder @Bill_ESPN for all of this & his brilliant stroke to hire @MichaelJSoltys as his first intern. Mike, in a rare moment of weakness (eyes closed?), hired me a decade later. Happy anniversary @espn & thank you, Mike & Bill!
@TheFrizz87 Scott... I'm tad older than you, but wonder if know about WW2 - #4 Grey Clarke? The War years produced some unusual daily lineups.
Back to 2023 - NYY Domingo Herman 99 pitch no hitter. DYK Having a first name starting with *D* helps..threw 6 of the 24 no hitters since 1880.
Who is your personal favorite Chicago White Sox third baseman?
Robin Ventura is first to mind for me, but my favorite is Kevin Youkilis.
Also liked John Cusack as Buck Weaver.
This is a must read. An amazing man - an amazing career! https://t.co/XlRHzt4FxZ /business/article/laid-43-years-mike-soltys-says-goodbye-espn-17999911.php
@espnmikes Mike Soltys, 43 yr PR expert in spreading the "ESPN word." was terminated today. I met his UCONN PR Dad 44 yrs ago. "Do you have an intern program he asked?" "YES" & thus began your amazing 43 ESPN yrs! Thank you! PS: You were the entire Intern program at the time!
